Hello folks,
I am quite new here and I have a basic question, yet I can’t figure it out.
I want to buy new home appliances like a dishwasher, washing machine and so on and I want to make sure that they will be able to report power consumption.
However If I take an example of a BOSH dishwasher connected with Home Connect, I can’t find where it says exactly where I will be able to get this metric.
My question is then the following : how can I make sure that I will be able to get this metric from this device ?
You can check for yourself @ app store;
Tap on the device, to have it’s related flowcards showed:
As we can see, no “the power/energy has changed” cards…
This can mean 4 things:
- The app store doesn’t always show each and every available flow card; to make sure the one you’d like is available: inform with fellow device owners or the developer
- There’s no power measuring sensor
- The API (= special connection to the manufacturers servers) doesn’t relay the power measurements
- There’s no app code added for the power measuring sensor → request for it with the app developer. Contact info is mentioned on the same app store page.
Example for my Samsung washing machine:
The SmartThings comm. app does provide for power and energy measurements, but the power never gets updated. The Energy does though.
It means the developer added power measurement capability to the app, but the particular device (or the API) doesn’t provide for that data.
Workaround: add a smart socket with power measuring capabilities. Spending an extra €10 to €50 on a €600 to €1000 machine is doable imho.
→ Make sure the socket can handle at least 16A / 3600W @230V (not all of them do).
Thank you for the detailed answer!
