Homey Self-Hosted Server (Pre release analysis)

Yes, I just checked and it’s strange that auto updates are missing. They do have a subdomain ota-api.homeyshs.net registered, so I don’t know if that means there are only manual updates or it might be coming later

There will probably be a Docker container, because that’s how it will run on a NAS I guess

Yeah I probably will go the modded route myself as well. Mainly because I know the current (and upgraded) hardware will be simple, power efficient, complete. etc.

Underpowered … well that depend on each user’s own usage of course .
But for what I intend the base Homey Pro Early 2023 is good, but just that little bit too little when it comes to RAM. Storage is not even that much of a concern.

But then the options are;
1 - Buy the new 4GB version for 399
2 - DIY it for 109, and go to 8 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.
That is simply put is an easy choice each and every day.

I wouldn’t need a custom dedicated setup on which I have to determine the antenna’s, etc. If that where the case, well Home Assistant is the leader on that front.

Doesn’t mean im not interested in what the team has cooked up though.

We’re exactly on the same page! I too am just a bit short on RAM, not on disk space. Since I already have the Homey Pro and it is working as it should, the DIY solution is the most interesting one.

Maybe they would allow you to host the software yourself and repurpose the Homey (Pro) hardware to some sort of Satellite-Mode, although I’d still go for the DIY solution.

But I am very interested in tomorrow’s update as well. Maybe they have something else to surprise me with that will change my mind.

The Homey Pro equivalent of Satellite Mode is HomeyLink

Well … im modding mine.
Nice to see the OS version but … too much hassle to setup a device to fill the work my Homey Pro is already doing. And as noted the Homey Pro is kinda simple, power efficient, complete like I noted before.

Beside that SHS will open the product open to a lot of people, developers etc. So im all for that.
Pricing, well for what it is and if you have some always runnign hardware you can easily enable this on… well it;s not that bad.

Congratulation @smarthomesven on your research work

P.S. The Docker image homey-shs has been public for three weeks on Packages · Athom B.V. · GitHub lol.

Seriously? Was it public all this time?

Nice work on finding out the SHS!
Now it does look interesting. Got a homey pro 2023. But the main page about the SHS says you need toe homey bridge to connect to, to use the antenna’s? Wouldn’t it be possible to use my homey pro 2023 with its antenna’s when i want to self host Homey through a docker on my NAS?
Also, can’t seem to find a thread or something else about SHS in here.

Yes, via HomeyLink

So i should make a backup from my homey pro, install homey shs on my server. load up the backup and then reset my homey pro to make use of the antenna’s?

No, you should keep all of the ZigBee/Z-Wave/RF/IR/BLE devices on the Pro and then move your other apps to the SHS

But does the SHS support any form of migration then? Because i want the flows and apps to the SHS.

AFAIK it doesn’t

So, an RPI5 plus a Homey Bridge, for less than €200, makes a much better setup than a Homey Pro 2026? Or is that too simplistic?

You also need the subscription, €149 for lifetime or €4,99 per month

But the amortized cost over a lifetime is very low .

Wondering if I could use my own antenna’s (Zigbee, Z-Wave) in stead of using the Homey Bridge.

My plan is to gradually replace my Homey Pro with Homey SHS.

I’m thinking of buying an SMLight SMHub Nano and slowly migrating my Zigbee / Thread devices to it. Those devices would then be exposed via Matterbridge to Homey SHS.

At the same time, I’d pair Matter-over-Wi-Fi/ wifi devices directly to Homey SHS,.

Hope this works.

Most probably the flow im-/export functionality works, tested :white_check_mark: with Pro 2026 and SHS @ linux+Docker

EDIT:

You’ll need a keyboard with an “ALT” key to activate the additional menu items.
For Android, a BT or USB keyboard does the trick.

To import, hit the ... on the right of a flow folder.

I can confirm that it is possible to export and import from Homey SHS to my Pro 2019 (and likely also the other way around)
