Im thinking to buy a homey bridge but would like to know if all my smart devices will be supported.
I have 3 Echo water timers that are controlled via the smartlife app, these timers are bluetooth controlled however you can add a gateway to be able to control them remotely.
I also have a tuya ir switch to control my AC unit remotely.
Outside of Tuya I have the house fitted with IKEA trådfri smart bulbs with connected remotes and motion sensors.
I have asked the AI support this question and the answer I got was that the IKEA trådfri bulbs are supported (didn’t mention anything about the control devices). But said that the tuya devices may not work. The AI said specifically said ‘may not’ as opposed to ‘won’t’ so I’m not sure what this means. Isn’t either yes or no?
No, it depends on the device. Tuya devices use different kinds of protocols. Also, if you buy the same device twice, there is a chance that one device is working in this app (or the testversion of the app, which is different), and the other one isn’t. Problem is that Tuya uses different device id’s in different lots of produced devices. These device id’s are used by homey to recognise the device.
So NO, it isn’t either a yes or a no. For homey, you better avoid using Tuya devices, altough (as in my case) you can have devices that function without any problem, you just don’t know before you buy.
If you have any echo devices (or are prepared to invest in a cheap one - there’s bound to be a sale soon) it would be worth exploring whether your devices can integrate with Alexa. From there you have several integration options into Homey.
Yes these water timers have integration with Alexa to turn on/off. So with this being true does that also mean homely will be able to use these devices?
At the moment I only use the smartlife app as there I can setup a weather schedule so it only comes on when it is sunny. Alexa does not have a weather trigger but if I can use this on homely then im hoping there will be a weather trigger to use.
There’s no Tuya app for Homey Cloud/bridge, except for the ‘official’ Tuya app, but that one blocks new users > so, unusable.
Instead of ‘wheel of fortune’ AI, you can take a look in the app store for what’s possible and what’s not. It’s not much imho.
BTW I don’t recommend Tuya devices combined with Homey (Pro), because you never know what’s inside, and Homey doesn’t have ‘real’ generic drivers to ensure carefree compatibility.
There are Homey apps that bring Alexa devices into Homey. That would be the best place to start.
I tried using them when there were connectivity and reliability issues so I switched to using the free Voice Monkey service. I’ve found it to be very reliable so you have a fallback if you need it.
The key difference from a Homey app is that Voice Monkey can’t bring the current status into Homey, but you still have some interoperability via Alexa routines.
Edit: sorry, just re-read your first post. The above applies to Homey Pro 2003 and, I guess, the mini. To use Voice Monkey you’d need to be able to invoke a URL. I don’t know if the bridge can do that.
