Homey Bridge - Last Seen always as?

Hi,

My Homey Bridge “Last Seen” value is always shown as “?” (attached screenshot). Is it a normal behaviour ?

This forum post ( Zigbee route - #2 by Sharkys ) seems to indicate that it is a potentially normal behavior ? Thank you for your clarification.

Thierry

Welcome, Thierry.

As a technician I wonder if there’s an issue with the bridge, or do you have an issue with the question mark in there?
(Don’t try to fix what isn’t broken :grimacing: )

Hello Peter

Thank you for replying.

I am new to the Homey eco-system, but I wanted to know if the Homey Bridge was picking up any of my devices. If it does not, it would mean my Homey Pro alone is sufficient and I can then move my Homey Bridge in my adjacent house.

Since the “last seen” column shows “?” I wonder if it means it has never received any telemetry from devices ?

Thank you

Oh I can’t tell how to discover if the bridge actually is used as zigbee/z-wave router in a user friendly way, Thierry.
If the ? indicates it, I don’t know.

I’d say just cut the power, and immediately check which zigbee/z-wave device stops responding.

With the previous Pro generation, you can actually view which node uses which router(s).
This very useful feature is removed for the Pro 2023/mini.

OK, this is what Homey bot reponded with:
(Imho with zigbee Homey is pretty much a big black box :man_shrugging: )

The Bridge itself won’t appear as a typical end device; some fields like “Last seen” can remain “?” for coordinator/infra nodes and don’t prove (or disprove) routing.

Ways to verify in practice Zigbee

  • Check Zigbee neighbor routes: in tools.developer.homey.app/tools/zigbee, open a few devices that are physically closer to the Bridge than to Homey Pro. If they pair or re-interview near the Bridge’s location and show stable LQI while being far from Homey Pro, they are likely routing via the Bridge.
  • Re-pair a nearby mains-powered Zigbee device in the Bridge’s room. After inclusion, see if its link quality improves and if it remains responsive when Homey Pro is farther away. That indicates the Bridge is acting as a router.
  • Observe network stability at the edge: devices previously borderline should respond faster/more reliably after adding the Bridge.

Z-Wave

  • Similar approach: include a Z-Wave powered device near the Bridge. If it includes and works where it previously couldn’t, or latency drops, the Bridge is routing.

Homey bot agreed it’s a bit odd we have to pull plugs and re-pair stuff to see if the the bridge is actively used as router or not.

It adviced to make a
feature request:

If the owner wants this tied to their account for updates, please have them submit the request below via the support page: Support | Homey — we’ll link it to their setup.

Setup:

  • Homey Pro (Early 2023) with one Bridge in Satellite Mode
  • Fewer than 10 Zigbee devices (Nodon) in use

Request:

Expose LQI/RSSI, parent/route, neighbor tables, TX/RX/retry/error counters, and a clear indicator when the Bridge is actively routing — ideally for both Zigbee and Z‑Wave

Thank you Peter. Much appreciated !

It would indeed be nice if things could be made simpler, but at least I do know now, thanks to your help, that the question mark does not necessarily mean the Homey Bridge is not picking up any devices.

I’ll also make use of the Homey bot more if I need more assistance. It seems useful.

Thanks very much again for your assistance !

YW!
It’s information source seems pretty accurate, but it assumes stuff as well. Up 'till now it’s been useful.
