Homey – After a Few Months, I Think It’s a Scam

I made a mistake to buy one. After official update my homey gets bricked. Support told me that was not their mistake and i can buy a new one. Beware of this piece of crap.

Again; same here

Sounds like total BS and you work for a rival company

As I wrote here Tour of bricked homey - #6 by Hartelk I paid hundreds of dollars for something that stopped working because force update error.

I understand you’re “not amused”, but I just don’t understand and can’t believe they actually told you sort of to get lost.
Why?
Recently my Pro 2019 of 4 years got bricked after a beta fw update v12.9.0-rc.x, and after explaining all of my reanimation attemps with support, support offered me to have it shipped it to Athom HQ, to see if it was an issue they could fix. They managed to flash the firmware.

My counter-narrative. I only had a few real annoying problems with Homey Pro in about 6 years. Started with Homey Pro 2019 now Pro 2023.

  1. Sometimes apps must be restarted, and I get no message of that. You simply find someting stopped working.
  2. One app I used wasn’t continued for the Pro 2023, this sometime happens with HA too, I heard from several people.
  3. Migration from Pro 2019 to Pro 2023 was irritating and difficult, but, with some help from the society and support, worked.

I have Fibaro, INNR, Philips Heu, Ikea, Shelly, Robbshop, Frient, Denon Heos, Denon reciever, Ecowitt, Weheat heatpump, Fronius inverter for solar and battery, Adurosmart, Aeotec, Afval herinnering (garbage alert), Andriod TV, Aqara, Better Logic, Buienradar (wether), Call me Bot, Chronograph, Clocks,Device Capabilitys, Devolo, Doorbird, Easee, Fritz!box, Homewizzard, IsiCalender (so that my Volvo heats up when I have an appointment outdoors), KlikAanKlikUit, Neo Coolcam, Plugwise (zone thermostat), Qnap, Qubino, Signal, Spotify, Twinkly, Volvo on Call. It all simply works, some easier that others.

I always check if a device is supported, before buying, and i did ask help from the community multiple times, which i got almost always and quick too.

Advanced Flows is really a joy to use: of course it takes effort and some practice before you can make complicatied flows. You can make it as complex as you wish: not for everyone, i gues, some nerdy inclination helps.
For most devices it realy is plug, install app and play. Simple flows for simple tasks are really easy too.

My most challenging flow was my sunscreenflow: facades in 5 orientations, with 25 screens, all go up and down depending on time of day, orientation, sunlight level, rain or wind and do not oscillate.

I do agree that the ‘PRO’-label is not really justified as I once in a (long) while have to restart an app. It is beyond me, though, that some people in this thread are so dissatisfied.

I am VERY happy with my Homey Pro for about 6 years now, it works without problems 99,9 % of the time and for me, it looks way easier than HA.

…and after 2 years I know it isn’t a scam.

Before moving to Homey Pro 2023 I was using Homeseer. Homey is head and shoulders above Homeseer and I’m so pleased that I moved. The transition was OK. I have a wide range of hardware and inevitably there were going to be some items that didn’t make the jump perfectly. But almost everything works fine on Homey.

I have quite a few Tuya items and following the dispute between Tuya and Homey I’ve decided to replace them with non Chinese cloud-dependent items. But that’s just my choice - a security thing.

Homey is a great system. The interface is slick and attractive (I do wish you could upload a background image like you could years ago). The device support is massive and kept very up to date.

The flows are the cherry on the cake. Simple flows are so quick and easy and, for me, are all I need in most cases. But I have a few advanced flows and the power of these is amazing. Must be the best on the market.

Occasionally an app will stop working, usually because the equipment manufacturer alters the API. Just check out the forum, then sit tight. The app developer will update as soon as they can, then the updated version is pushed to your Homey Pro. Then it just works again.

But this is a rare event. I don’t know what my Homey up time is, but I’m guessing it’s well over 99%. And remember this isn’t the flight control system for an airliner! Life goes on if there’s an occasional glitch.

in conclusion, if anyone thinks Homey is a scam I think they either have a faulty unit or they misunderstand what to expect.

Homey is not Perfect, nor is HomeAssistant, Hubitat, SmartThings, Wink (the real Scam) and so on.

JUST THAT, the main issue on Domotics, the industry is maturing now, becoming mainstream, matter and thread are initiatives to standartize the protocols and technologies. We’re the test subjects, and in the next years with the stablishment of Matter and Thread I think the things will be smoother independent of wich Hub you chose.

I’m in the domotics since 2006, at time we had RF 443, IR and the beginning of Z-wave. My first automation was coded from scratch in an old PC controling light switchs over the serial bus and connecting via Bluetooth to my Symbian (indestructible) Nokia Cellphone as a project for my Computer Science class.

Being able to open the box, plug the ethernet cable and in 40 minutes fully automate my (not tech savvy) brother’s new appartment with Aqara, Ecobee, Philips Hue, Ikea, and ThirdReality brands is an incredible advance in 20years.

As I said, the industry is maturing, the standards are comming and, soon, the choice of the main hub will be a matter of taste. The basics will be done seamlessly and you’ll be able to choose the extras that fit better to your needs.
