The latest newsletter regarding Google/Alexa has me worried. A simple feature like “pincode” and “exclude devices” doesn’t seem to come to Homey 2019?
Does this mean that Homey 2019 is now officially abandoned by Athom since the Energy Dashboard is als not going to be part of this device either?
Will we still get updates but not new features? Maybe it’s time for some clarification or an official statement where we stand with our “legacy” devices.
You can’t expect infinite free upgrades with new functionality, it ends somewhere.
I understand they want to give you a reason to buy a Pro 2023’s or mini at some point.
But abandoned, no. That’s not the word to use.
Latest updates show all this for example:
Athom already told when they announced the Energy Dongle and the energy Dashboard is now only for Homey Pro 2023 same as having a Homey Bridge dat can’t add to a Homey Sphere model.
( Also here… https://youtu.be/0qHve5ngtu8?si=wF3p_EsZ2bduX9Lq&t=3039 )
So with a Homey 2016 someone still gets updates almost 10 years now.
Abandoned might be a bit harsh, and yes we’re getting updates. But the Energy dashboard, once part of Homey 2019 mind you, is exclusive to newer models.
I understand that there might be a limitation, though I don’t see it with energy, on hardware.
And getting bugfixes till 2028 is great, don’t get me wrong.
But an update to google home, which in the news letter doesn’t state 2019/2016, which is just an ‘exclude in the google api json’ is odd to be available over the entire Homey Family and thus feels like a abandonment on a huge userbase.
I happily paid for advance flows and dashboard… and continu to do so for bigger features if they’re useful enough (though not for a google checkbox feature).
But since there are now a few, non hardware, features closed off I wonder if this is part of the roadmap.
At a point people will either choose for a 2023 or go (back to) home assistant I guess
