Home/Away location lagging

Since I have upgraded from a Google Pixel 6 pro to a Google Pixel 8 pro, my home/away location is lagging, meaning it takes around 10 minutes to update. My wife has a Google Pixel 6A and her home/away location is set almost immediately.
All location settings are the same of course.
I’ve tried to reinstall Homey app but this also did not have any effect on the lagging location…
Any thoughts?

I have same issue on my Pixel 9pro. I must open Google Maps to update location in Homey app.
Previously I used Galaxy S23Ultra and there was all OK. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Thanks

My Google Pixel 8 pro is working now (dont know how…) but my wife’s Pixel 6a is stil lagging. I have given up: geofencing of Homey is a weak points and I see no improvements …

Hello @Matthew_Vennik @Ales_Paur

I know this is a older post….

Did either of you manage to get this working or pinpoint if its a Homey issue vs a android issue ?

I use IOS and my geolocation with Homey works correctly, my partners Google Pixel Pro 9 on the other hand works like once after i setup all the settings and then stops working.
I recently purchased a new Homey 2023 and put my original Homey 2016 into her house and neither locations work for her but again work fine for me.

Have made sure to what i can see Android is not disabling or putting the app to sleep giving it access to the location all the time etc.

if you have anything that might help or any work arounds would love to hear them !!

Thanks in advance!

As times go by some changes took place.

My wife now has a Xiaomi 15 and Homey presence is working good.
I still have my Google Pixel 8 Pro but degoogled it and running GraphenOS now, unfortunately Homey presence is not working at all. If I look at permissions of the Homey app, it is allowed always but the last time seen/opened 2 days ago ….

AFAIK the Homey presence uses a Google Play Services API to get the location. It doesn’t run as a background service, so I don’t think it’s going to work on a phone without Play Services.

Hey Matt
Yep i could not get it to work on the pixel in the end i just had to scrap it and move to using the App Smart Presence
Smart Presence | Homey

This worked very well, Set a reserved IP to the phone by your router then configure the app,

When the device is on wifi the app will see the phone and then you can mark as home or away etc

Thanks.. I just added a topic as well.

I don’t have a Pro so this solution is not working.

Hey Matt,

its not a specific solution for Pixel its a general solution as its just an app that pings a device and when it gets a response it becomes active / presence.

if its not working i would double check your settings

You might already know this but in case its useful i will write it out,

  • *Make sure you add the DHCP reservation to your phone, *
Note: on your phone make sure it does not set a random mac address for your home wifi, This could be a setting like keep my Wifi address private or similar, If you keep this setting on it will change the MAC address randomly and mean that the reservation will not work correctly which will break the presence.
  • Then add the Device to your devices list you can see in the video the rough steps
  • Now that the device is added and you have the IP address set so the Smart presence App can track the device

  • Create a new flow that will mark the phone home

  • Doing this will then tell the Homey Presence the person is home and your flows will run as originally designed

    Hopefully that is somewhat helpful!

Smart Presence is unavailable for a non-Pro, a.k.a. Homey Cloud, Matt

I presume he was referring to Homey Pro, not Pixel Pro.

@Matthew_Vennik Macrodroid does not need a Homey app to be installed

Ohhh i see sorry i miss understood!

Thought was talking about the phone not Homey Itself !

I think he could’ve been a bit clearer indeed!

Sorry I could indeed have been clearer.
