Hey everyone,
I have a question. I’m not experiencing any substantial issues, but whilst looking at my wifi configuration I did noticed that the Homey Bridge has an unusually high percentage of TX-Retries. It is connected to a 2.5 GHz (20MHz) only network and has a very strong signal strength of 43 dBm. Still, the average TX-Retries is between 35% and 40% with spikes of up to 50%. Does anyone else experience these numbers with the Homey Bridge? Is there something wrong with mine?
To give a bit of perspective, here’s my home situation. I live in an apartment on the second floor, and have an attic on the fourth floor. My home network consists of a Ubiquity CGU which is connected to a PoE+ switch, which powers 4 Wireless Access points (no meshing). 3 U6-Pro’s are covering my apartment, and 1 AC-Pro covers the attic. To minimize interference, I have a separate IoT network which is only broadcasting on the 2.5 GHz frequency with a 20 MHz band through just 2 acces points (1 on the attic, and one in the apartment). The Clients network only broadcasts on the 5GHz frequency with a 80 MHz band through all access points. I have a Homey Pro in my apartment, connected directly to the switch with the RJS adapter. I have the Homey Bridge setup as a repeater in the Attic.
Generally, the performance of my network is super. At any moment in time I could have as many as 30 to 35 devices connected. None of my other devices is showing this high TX-Retries number. All my other devices are showing numbers below 25%, with most of them even below 15%. Even the other ones that are connected to the AP in the Attic.
Of course, living in an (older )apartment always comes with some interference from neighbors. This is the reason I use a professional Ubiquity setup with lots of AP’s to give every room the best Signal to noise ratio as possible. As the attic is relatively small, even with the antenna power to low, the signal is excellent, and the noise is actually surprisingly low. What is going on here?
