I want to create a flow where my lights turn off and the blinds close when I put my phone to charge by the bed.
I’ve tried a Tapo P115 smart plug, but it only updates the power measurement 3-4 times an hour. So I’m looking for a plug where the power measurement is updated constantly, or at least every 10 seconds.
There was a recent update to the (official) Tapo app for Homey, which allows Homey to connect locally to you Tapo smart plug. This might also give you more frequent updates. The prior connection through the cloud is rate limited, hence a lower update frequency. Check the instructions in the app store for the official Tapo app, as you need to repair/re-connect your plug in order to enable local access. The new functionality is still in test, so you’ll have to install the test version via: Tapo | Homey to get the 2.0.2 version.
If you want to replace your plug, I personally have good experiences with the INNR SP240 smart plugs. They are Zigbee, allow for max. 16A and update the power usage every few seconds.
There are several discussions on this forum with similar questions as yours, so you might want to check out those (use the search or AI function). Also the this Homey best buy guide might be of use: Smart Plugs – Best Buy Guide | Homey.
I’m using the Meross MSS315 Matter plugs which are really quick with reporting energy data, almost every second. And they work fully locally since they are using Matter.
Thanks for the help. It helped to use the test version of the Tapo app, but there is still up to 20 seconds of delay. And I don’t think the lady of the house will be happy with that.
But it solved another problem. I have some P115 plugs that are turned on and off with an Ikea Rodret dimmer, and it was very slow to respond. Now it turns on instantly.
I will probably try to buy some of the plugs you suggest. Thanks for the help again, I am new to Homey, so it has been a good learning experience for me.
