Foscam G4EP: Camera connected, but no live video in Homey Pro

Good morning,

I’m using the official Foscam app with a Foscam G4EP camera.

Homey detects the camera, and I’ve successfully paired it. However, I can’t get the live video feed to work. All I see is a small window with an option to refresh.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something else I need to configure?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I experienced that problem with the official Foscam app in Homey as well. You end up seeing a snapshot, which is the old option. Unfortunately, live streaming apparently hasn’t been added to that app yet.

Hi Erik,

That is rather strange, because as far as I can see, it clearly states “Real-time video streaming”.

Currently supported features:

  • Real-time video streaming
  • Motion detection
  • Flip view, mirror view, infrared light, and other settings
  • Various Flow card configuration options

On the other hand, the add-on was last updated four years ago, so it is almost a miracle that it still works at all.

Unfortunately, this is yet another issue that makes me regret choosing Homey Pro.

I understand your frustration, but it’s really weird that they put that on there since back then only snapshots were possible. You’ve only been able to view a livestream on the device for a few months now. Ultimately, only the developer can fix this by updating the app.

Hello Erik,

I did find this add-on by @Adrian_Rockall

Use an ONVIF-compatible camera so Homey can improve your home security.

It’s a nice add-on, but the Foscam’s live view is also very slow when using the RTP stream it relies on.
My REOLINK doorbell, on the other hand, works well with this add-on.

Huge thanks for the tip! I actually built my own Foscam app recently because I also have a Foscam doorbell and wanted to use those features. I know it will never make it to the App Store since an official one already exists. Maybe my app supports your camera too? Let me know if you want me to send you a PM with a link to the test app (keep in mind that it isn’t fully finished yet).

That’s not a rule, although Athom aims at one app per brand. When you add functionality, or the “official” app is updated 3.5y ago, it might be welcome.

As example, the Aqara Community app

yes sure..

like to try that .

I’ll try to make some time soon to look at my Foscam app and improve it a bit as a test for more people. And if @Cube-Penining could test it for a moment to see if that camera works with it too.
