As the topic states: does Zigbee router devices that are unplugged disturb the Zigbee network?
I ask because I have a few router devices that I don’t want to have connected to mains power all the time for reasons and I have some instability in my Zigbee network. Could the instability be caused by Homey searching for devices that are invisible due to them not having power?
The Zigbee network is a mesh network. It tries to optimize paths between devices. So every time you turn off a Zigbee device you cause a change in the mesh and paths might need to be reorganized. So yes, turning off a Zigbee device influences your Zigbee network. How big the impact is depends on where the device is located within the mesh.
That’s a shame…the devices I unplug are outdoors power plugs that I use for winter/Christmas lights in my garden (that I don’t want laying there all year around) and also plugs that I use for my pool during the summer that I don’t want to have there during winter.
I guess the only way to remedy this is to remove the devices from the system…breaking all affected flows, and re include them and fixing the flows when they are needed again.
I wish there was a function in Homey that the user could tell Homey to consider a device as “Inactive” and therefore to ignore it, but still keep it in the system so all flows are intact.
Ok. Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about unplugging these devices once every day or so. So removing and storing them once a year should not be a real problem. However, unplugging them will of course give them an error status in Homey and you will have devices with errors during the period you don’t use them.
Indeed, having the option to hide unused devices would be great.
I have a scheduled reboot of Homey each night so that would have fixed the potential issue to the next day after I unplugged the plugs. In that case my issues with Zigbee is not related to missing devices.
However, all those devices are still in the device list in devtools and their routes are still stated.
Why would you reboot Homey every day? It is not like a Windows PC that needs a regular reboot to function properly. This will just cause another disruption of your Zigbee (and/or Zwave) network.
I have so many issues with my system that without the daily restart I have to monitor it manually more than I like. With the restart I at least get some hours in the morning when Homey is working as it should.
