Hello, I tried to connect POPP 10 Years Smoke Detector to my Homey Pro controler but it failed. I can’t find the device in the list devices.
How can I connect the z-wave equipment to Homey Pro?
Basic Z-wave Device solution is not good implemantation. I can do nothing with it.
If there isn’t an app especially for these smoke detectors of this company in the app store, then the chance is very low that these devices are currently supported by Homey.
Each Z-Wave device has a manufacturer ID, product type ID and device ID. If these IDs are not present in any app, then the devices are added as “Generic Device”.
You can write your own App or make an app request in this thread. But I guess the chance that someone will develop an app for these devices will be really small, sorry.
Hello Thank you for your reply. I found that the device which I have is POPP equipment which is RF smoke detector with z-wave modul and it should work with Homey but it doesn’t. There is POPP application for POPP devices and I choose correct type of POPP sensor.
If it’s e real POPP smoke detector (not rebranded one!) you can just try the test version of the POPP app.
If it doesn’t work either, you can try to contact the app developer @ MarcoRuiter (without space between @ and the name).
Sorry Fantross, what does mean contact @MarcoRuiter? How can I contact the person with this address? I bought the Homey Pro few days ago and I am confused a bit. The Smoke Detector is realy POPP device (POPE700342). Mayba should I send an email to MarcoRuiter@athom.com? I look forward your answer.
Hello @MarcoRuiter, I have a POPP (POPE700342) 10 Years Smoke Detector and I can’t connect the device to Homey Pro using your POPP app. Could you be so kind and advice me how to do it please? I would appreciate. I received a message “No compatible Homey App has been found for this device. It has been added as a basic Z-Wave device” during connection activity. Basic Z-wave Device solution is not good implemantation. I can do nothing with it. I could connect the decvice correctly to Domoticz on Rpi with Z-wave Aeotec Gen5 gateway and using Razberry and Z-wave.me system. The POPP Smoke Detector was assignet correctly woithout any problems there. The issue is related to the POPP app on Homey Pro I think. Many thanks. Regards. Areks
Hello Dirk @DirkG, I sent a message to POPP company and received interesting information. Please see it below:
“The problem is currently that the app for Homey is not managed by us (he ment POPP company). We are already working on our own app which is about to be tested for the first time.
I will try as soon as possible to provide a test version, where the detector already works.
I will send you the link that you need.”
“Unfortunately, the POPP APP is not maintained by Marcor Ruiter, so with the latest updates from Homey, some devices no longer work properly.
We have developed our own app, which integrates the existing and missing devices.”
I attached quotes for you to know, also for other people
Hello @DirkG, the new POPP app 3.0.2 works fine. It was upgraded on 28th JAN 2022 at last
Yes, the app has been officially adopted by Popp with version v3.0.0, partially updated and some devices added.
Glad to see that it works now.
Hello,
today I got a Popp Smoke detector with siren.
Linking to Homey:
Verbindung nicht möglich.
Bei der Kommunikation mit dem Gerät ist etwas schief gelaufen.
Bitte versuche es erneut.
Repeating…
Allways the same…
It would be respectful to the users who don’t speak German if you would also share the error message in English. But that’s just a side note.
What have you already tried to solve the problem?
Which Homey model are you using?
Do you have a solid Z-Wave mesh?
Where did you try to connect the sensor? In the near of Homey, or far away from Homey?
Thx for the fast answer.
I tried to connect a lot of times as Popp device or general z-wave. I reinstalled the popp app.
Homey recognized the 1. and 2. push on z-wave button of the smoke detector and then comes the error message, that connection is not possible.
I have no other z-wave product and tried to connect direct near the Homey Pro.
It is the POPE701486 smoke sensor with controllable siren V 1.2
The sensor will definitely not work as a generic Z-Wave device. If the POPP app is already installed, the correct driver from the POPP app will be used for the sensor anyway.
Check in Developer Tools → Z-Wave if Z-Wave devices have already been added. Please delete them.
Please restart Homey (HP19 and earlier: unplug and plug back in after 10 minutes; HP23: either restart via the Homey smartphone app or the web app, or also unplug). After restarting, please wait 10-15 minutes, then add the sensor.
Hey Dirk,
Z-Weather and Z-Rain were connected. I deleted all Z-Wave devices in the developer Tools, restart HP23, waited 15 minutes and tried to add the Smoke sensor as POPP 701486.
The same error - no connection possible.
Ok, there is a misunderstanding.
You said that you don’t have any Z-Wave devices except the POPP smoke sensor. That’s why I said that you should delete all Z-Wave devices in Developer Tools, if there are devices listed.
Because you seem to be new to Z-Wave and Homey, I didn’t explain it in more detail. If you add a Z-Wave device and something goes wrong with the inclusion, it can happen that there are “Unknown devices” in Developer Tools. These should be deleted.
Let’s start at the beginning:
– Which Homey model are you using?
– Which firmware is installed on Homey?
– Is a five-digit code requested during inclusion?
– Please post a screenshot of the Developer Tools → Z-Wave page
After you have answered the questions, we will go on, as there are different things to be aware of with an HP19 (or earlier) and an HP23.
Perhaps you should read the following article to understand Z-Wave a little better and to know what to look out for.
Thanks for spending time in my problem.
I owned POPP Smoke sensor 701486 and Z-Weather, Z-Rain but tried to install smoke sensor first.
After multiple unsuccess tries I checked your suggestion.
There were unknown nodes in the developer tools z-wave. I deleted them and tried …
Also unsuccessful - I checked to connect Z-Weather and Z-Rain - it functiones without problems.
Now to your checklist:
- Homey Pro (Early 2023) Version 11.0.0
- no code requested during inclusion (also not for Z-Weather, Z-Rain)
Thank you in advance
The Z-Weather has lost the connection to Homey already, but this is another point. However, I guess that without Z-Wave repeaters (all devices powered by mains voltage are repeaters) you will always have more or less disconnections.
Acc. the problem with the smoke sensor here are some other suggestions:
– Reset the sensor
– Use a new batterie
– Try to include the sensor in near of Homey (distance < 1 m, even if it is not actually necessary with the HP23)
If none of this helped:
- Reset Z-Wave network
- PTP (Pull the Plug) for at least 10 -15 minutes
- After restart of Homey, please wait again 10-15 minutes
- Include the smoke sensor in the near of Homey. Reset the smoke sensor and insert a new battery before
If that doesn’t help either, then I have no more ideas, sorry. My recommendation is to contact POPP support.
Hi Dirk,
I think I have done everything - without success.
Nevertheless, thank you very much for your tips.
PS: Although Z-Weather and Z-Rain appear as offline in the Developer Tools, they send messages when the corresponding events occur.
In the meantime, I have put another Z-Wave product, the Remotec Scene Master, into operation without any problems.
