I have a question regarding smart blinds / curtains. I am renovating our home in which we will be looking to replace a lot of curtains and blinds . I would like to add blinds / curtains to our smart home.
I’m looking for a “kid proof” / “wife friendly” smart curtains / blinds where the blinds can be automated and be opened manually. My wife’s fear is if we automate the curtains / blinds is that kids will play with them. ie try and force open the curtain/blind and that this will break the motor of the blinds.
A lot of the curtains allow to pull them to manually open them, at least Somfy and SwitchBot do. Basically, you just give them a brief tug and then they continue.
I’m not sure about blinds, as none of mine have a manual feature, except my SwitchBot venetian blinds, where the motor attaches to the rod, so they can still be used manually.
The eve motion blinds are thread and have a manual pull which works great. My favourite for it’s easy of use, good looks and future proofing.
The Aqara Zigbee blind controller is an after install add on device which manipulates the chain which has buttons in other to control what’s going on. Best price but still reliable
I don’t recommend soma if you’re looking for family acceptance factor. It’s noisey has connection issues, charges via a 3mm headphone plug which is an absolute pain and no manual buttons.
Neither work when the battery is completely flat - both have the ability to run flows when the battery is below x%.
I’m using the Eve Matter Motion Blinds and they are really good. You can also give it a quick pull to manually start the motor to either open or close it.
