Hi,
I’ve got a M100 hub, primarily to try if there are firmware updates of aqara zigbee devices.
However all seems fine, so I thought about using the M100 hub as thread extension given that I do not have to many matter-thread devices yet.
The M100 specs talk about Thread Border Router + Mesh Extender features, so I was hoping that might work.
So I’m not sure it does or did.
What I tried:
In the Aqara App I clicked onto the matter settings and and connected ecosystems which then offered me a matter pairing code. I copied that from the Aqara app.
In Homey app, I used the “add matter device”, “connect via homey” and entered that code. The M100 hub showed up in Homey. Also in the Aquara app, Homey showed up as connected. So that seems fine. And even when I tried to connect a zigbee device directly to M100, Homey did see it (won’t need that as Homey does that for me, but I noticed while trying to connect a zigbee device directly to check for Aqara firmware updates).
However here is where I’m unsure… Does M100 now really extend the very same thread network similar to a thread smartplug connected to Homey? - Or did I just get it to mirror any matter devices connected to m100 into my Homey app?
In the M100 settings it says it’s connected via WiFi mentioning my SSID. The same one I was using to connect the M100 via Aqara app in first place.
In the Homey developer tools “matter” section, I can also see the M100 device. Also mentioning Wifi, not Thread (as for some thread/matter plugs I have). Shouldn’t I see “thread” if it’s acting as a thread “repeater” as I hoped for?
Is that feasible at all or how to connect both ecosystems to make it happen? Maybe I’m accidentally picked wifi pairing instead of thread somehow.
Did anyone manage to do that or is it as designed to only be able to mirror directly paired M100 child devices into my Homey and that’s all as expected.

P.S. BTW: I also tried the coupling using “Connect via Android” in Homey… This also “works”. The interesting difference is that in the Aqara app under connected ecosystem it not only lists Homey, but also Google Home. - No clue if this is better or worse having two connected ecosystems.
