Better support for Ring devices

Many Ring devices appear to be missing from the system. This is disappointing since Ring is one of the largest smart device manufacturers in the US. I have several of their smart lighting products but there is no support for them.

Please go to https://request-a-brand.homey.app

This includes missing device models of ‘supported’ brands.

I can’t add to that list. Requires me to validate my email but can’t figure out how.

Athom (and community developers) is (are) well aware there’s demand for support for more Ring devices, but for that to happen Ring must provide a supported method to integrate their devices into other ecosystems. At this moment the Ring system is a walled garden and their devices will only integrate well with other Amazon brands, that’s really something for Ring (Amazon) to fix.

That’s odd, while you’re supposed to login with the account you use for this forum.
Or did you try to create another account solely for request-a-brand.homey.app ? AFAIK that’s not needed.

When I go to that screen and fill it out, it asks me to log in. It does this even though I am already logged in to this forum. I select my account (I only have one) and I get the following screen:

Since I can’t figure out how to verify my email, I’m not able to submit any requests to add devices. It’s a bit frustrating because there does not seem to be any obvious way to verify my account that I can find, and the support forum is equally baffled by this.

I understand your frustration with Ring, but I’m not sure waiting for the American manufacturers to collaborate is a good strategy. They are well known to invent ‘walled gardens’ as you put it. Athom seems very focused on products that are available in Europe, but support for products that are available in the U.S. seems a little slower.

There appears to be an ‘off-brand’ api for connecting to Ring lighting devices. ring-client-api - npm and it appears other have had success with REST API calls. I’ve not verified any of these but a quick search presents several solutions.

I’m trying to turn on my landscape lighting when I come home and open the driveway gate. I needed an outdoor contact sensor, so I went with Rings (couldn’t find others rated for outdoors). However, Alexa couldn’t talk to it directly, but Homey could. However, Homey can’t talk to the Ring lighting transformers that it’s connected to, but can talk to the aquara relays that turn on some of the 120V lights. So, I have a bit of a Rube Goldberg machine where the Ring Contact sensor notifies Homey, Homey starts a flow, Turns on the aquara relays and a TP link outlet, the TP link outlet is detected by Alexa, and Alexa starts a flow which turns on the Ring Transformers. It seems unnecessarily complex and fragile.

Any response to this item. Does anyone from Athom respond to these, or should I add this to the support queue?

When you want to contact Athom about their published apps, please follow the preferred way as mentioned on the app page at the app store.
( for Athom it’s always: contact https://homey.app/support )
