Hi.
I have a LG webOS TV NANO926PB and was wodering which app is currently the best for working with webOS-TVs. I’ve tried a few, but they all have their flaws and WAF killers ![]()
I think the official app, since it’s maintained by LG
If all features you use are supported by this app
Thats’s the one I’m using. It’s super buggy, but might be my TV.
No, LG ThinQ as a whole is just super buggy, also on Home Assistant.
Thanks for that - saves me some time debugging ![]()
Any tips for something that works better? There was a 3rd party solution, but I think that’s abandoned.
Sorry, no idea. I have a few LG airconditioners that I hardware-modified so they can be controlled locally instead of having to use the ThinQ cloud services, but a TV is a very different device.
LG? - Maybe best some anti spyware stuff? ![]()
What do you mean with “spyware”? The Bright Data SDK (residential proxy software) embedded inside many TV apps? It’s not really spyware, all it does is abuse your internet connection (and the trusted residential IP address that comes with it) for AI web scraping. You just need to be careful about which apps you install on your TV. Many seemingly harmless “fireplace” or “screensaver” apps secretly use your internet connection as a residential proxy 24/7 in the background.
Samsung already prohibited the Bright SDK inside apps, yet there are still many apps that use it on their TV app store (including apps that are made by Bright Data themselves, which I wonder how those could ever pass an app review). Not sure about LG’s app store rules though, but it was recently in the news that there are malicious apps on their TV app store with the Bright SDK embedded
Did you try this app already?
Works great with my 2019 LG WebOS TV
Good to see a local option getting a mention — the cloud dependence of ThinQ was my main frustration too. I’ve stuck with the official app for now, but I’ll give the Local webOS TV Controller a look next time my TV needs re-pairing. Thanks for the tip!
