Found Homey last night, via a friend, and it’s fantastic. I have a HomeAssistant set up that I’ve been running for almost 5 years. I’ve configured a Homey Self-Hosted Server (on Docker) and started to configure it with the intention of switching if all goes well.
I have, however, encountered a blocker. I need HomeKit integration. Siri Shortcuts won’t do it. Many reasons for this, e.g. 1) whole family use it and I have give guests temporary access to my system without having to install an app or signup; 2) Apple CarPlay, garage door opener pops up as I approach the house; to name a few.
From what I’ve read HomeKit integration can be access via Experiments but I don’t see that option on my Self-Hosted Server set up.
Am I missing something or is HomeKit just not available for that configuration?
Cheers,
Victor
It’s only available @ physical Homey models
You might want to try the HomeKitty app.
It’s always a plan to search the app store when you’re looking for stuff.
BTW do you use any local radios like zigbee/z-wave/Ble ?
Nb I wouldn’t ditch H.A.
Thanks @Peter_Kawa. Still getting used to the ecosystem. Homekitty looks like it will do the trick, although it looks like it’s not being actively maintained (states, “Updated 2 years ago” - however changelog has recent changes?).
There does seems to be an official way to support HomeKit. You just need to get the Homey Pro or mini - HomeKit Weekly: Homey’s new Matter Bridge app brings more smart home gear into HomeKit - 9to5Mac.
I don’t have any Zigbee/Z-wave/BLE devices in my set up. I do have some 433 Hz RF ceiling fans and a Teleco Daisy device (that just recently got introduced to HA as a community based custom integration).
Why do you suggest I don’t ditch HA?
Couldn’t get HomeKitty to work. Cannot find a way for it to generate a code for pairing.
It’s right there on the app page
Also, you should install the current test version of the app, as that’s where most development is done and it supports many more devices than the stable.
Yep tried that, get this:
That sounds like a networking issue.
It could be just not sure what’s blocking it. I have the following ports open on the box running Homey Server:
4859/tcp ALLOW Anywhere
4859/udp ALLOW Anywhere
80/tcp ALLOW Anywhere
443/tcp ALLOW Anywhere
The phone, server & HomeKit hub are all on the same network.
I had used the code from your GitHub repo before as I hadn’t realised you can install the app from the app store as my.homey.app knows your setup. A noob issue.
However still can’t get the Homekit to add the HomeKitty bridge. Will keep troubleshooting.
HomeKitty doesn’t use a fixed port, it will randomly pick one between 49152 and 60999.
Also, are you passing mDNS traffic? That’s used for HomeKit discovery.
Make sure to use the current test version of the app though, since that’s the version matching the one on Github.
