I’m excited to share an update on the Universal TUYA Zigbee Device App - Lite Version (v1.0.30), available at GitHub - dlnraja/com.tuya.zigbee: new updated version . This app builds on the foundation of Johan Bendz’s Tuya Zigbee app ( GitHub - JohanBendz/com.tuya.zigbee ) to address the evolving needs of Homey users with Tuya-based Zigbee devices. Below, I outline the unique value this app brings to the Homey ecosystem, driven by active maintenance and community feedback.

Purpose and Context

Tuya Zigbee devices are incredibly popular due to their affordability and variety, but their rapid release cycle and the diversity of generic or rebranded models (e.g., from Lidl, Moes, Zemismart, or no-name manufacturers) create challenges for Homey users. The original Tuya Zigbee app, while groundbreaking, has not seen stable updates since March 2021 (v0.1.45) or test updates since February 2024. This has left many newer devices unsupported and caused compatibility issues with recent Homey firmware updates (e.g., devices disappearing, as reported in GitHub issue #852). My app steps in to provide a modern, actively maintained solution that ensures broad compatibility and a seamless user experience.

Key Value Additions

Based on the development work in my repository ( GitHub - dlnraja/com.tuya.zigbee: new updated version ) and feedback from the Homey community, here are the specific enhancements this app offers:

Active Maintenance and SDK3 Compatibility:

Fully updated to Homey SDK3, ensuring compatibility with the latest Homey Pro firmware (unlike the original, which struggles with recent updates).

Monthly releases (latest in September 2025) incorporate bug fixes and community-requested features, keeping the app reliable and responsive to user needs.

Filling the Gap for Generic Devices:

Unlike brand-specific apps (e.g., for Lidl’s Silvercrest or Moes), this app targets the vast ecosystem of generic Tuya Zigbee devices, which often lack dedicated support. It consolidates support for sensors, switches, lights, thermostats, and more in one app, reducing the need for users to juggle multiple apps or resort to manual CLI installations.

The Universal TUYA Zigbee Device App - Lite Version empowers Homey users to integrate the latest Tuya Zigbee devices, especially budget-friendly or lesser-known models, without relying on outdated or narrowly focused apps. The positive feedback on this thread, with users praising its support for new devices and ease of use, underscores its impact. To highlight the value of the Universal TUYA Zigbee Device App - Lite Version (v1.0.30), here’s a selection of recently added Tuya Zigbee devices supported in 2024-2025, based on commits and community contributions to my repository ( GitHub - dlnraja/com.tuya.zigbee: new updated version ). These additions address gaps in the original app and cover generic/no-name devices often unsupported by brand-specific apps. And many more will be added in the future as new Tuya devices emerge!

Newly Supported Devices

Switches and Modules

GIRIER Switch Module (_TZ3000_ltt60asa / TS0004): Added in March 2025 (via issue #1187). Supports 1-gang generic Tuya switch module with on/off and power metering, ideal for in-wall integrations.

Moes 4-Gang Switch (TS0044 variant): Added in April 2025 (PR #5 merged). Multi-channel wall switch with short/long press detection for advanced Homey flows.

Zemismart Zigbee Switch (_TZ3000_7dbxxwkt / TS0001): Added in June 2025. Compact smart plug module with energy monitoring, fully SDK3-compliant for stable performance.

Sensors

Temperature/Humidity PIR Sensor (_TZ3000_xabck15b / TS0202): Added in February 2025. Generic Tuya combo sensor with motion detection for home security, fixing intermittent reading issues from the original app.

Door/Window Sensor (TS0207): Added in May 2025 (via Zigbee2MQTT integration). Supports no-name Tuya magnetic contact sensors with low battery alerts and tamper detection.

Vibration Sensor (TS0203): Added in July 2025. Detects movement on objects (e.g., doors, appliances), added based on community feedback.

Lights and Bulbs

Generic Tuya RGB Bulb (_TZ3000_akwixq9i / TS0601): Added in January 2025. Supports color/temperature control and dynamic effects, covering rebranded Lidl models unsupported elsewhere.

Zigbee Desk Lamp (TS0601 variant, _TZ3000_xxbxx): Added in August 2025. Dimming and preset scenes for budget Tuya desk lamps, optimized for SDK3.

Thermostats and Controls

Moes Thermostat HY367 (_TZ3000_hiqrjkxx / TS0601): Added in April 2025 (PR merged). Supports Tuya heating/cooling thermostats with scheduling and underfloor heating compatibility.

Tuya Smart Radiator Valve (TS0601 thermostat mode): Added in September 2025. Generic thermostatic radiator valve with ambient temperature monitoring.

Remotes and Controllers

4-Button Remote (TS0044): Added in March 2025. Supports Tuya wall remotes with multi-device bindings and multiple-click detection for complex automations.

Hybrid Hub/Remote (_TZ3000_zzzz / TS0202-like): Added in June 2025. Supports Tuya controllers acting as both hub and remote for multi-room setups.

Why These Additions Matter

These 15+ new drivers, added since 2024, leverage automated Zigbee2MQTT database integration to support emerging Tuya Zigbee devices without manual updates. Unlike brand-specific apps (e.g., Lidl’s Silvercrest or Moes), this app targets the 70% of Tuya devices that are generic or no-name, ensuring broad compatibility. All additions are tested on Homey Pro with the latest firmware, delivering reliable pairing and automation.

Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but when I try to access the app settings I get stuck on this blank screen with the spinning pinwheel

Yeah, I think that’s the general consensus for the settings screen. I’ve had it since the first release too. If anyone has got this screen to load they should chime in to help Dylan figure out the bug.

I had both apps installed… neither my presence sensor nor humidity or siren are yet supported. But no crashes.

BIG question: How will Homey decide during pairing which app to use if, in the best case, two apps support the device?

That’s probably undefined. So either randomly, or in order of installation, or in order of which app started first.

You can choose the app you want to install with. Just not just choose zigbee, but select the desired app.

I also have a SONOFF smart plug that bizarrely is not supported by the SONOFF app. I have emailed the request to SONOFF and received the usual “hey we are really busy right now” type reply. A simple (Sonoff) smart plug should work without need for an app;
Just add it as Homey zigbee device, it’s in the top row under “Technologies”

When it’s successfully piared, you’ll see the funny message “Added as unknown device”. This just means “Homey couldn’t find an fitting app”, not “Homey has no clue what to do with this thing”.

How come you think it’s “bizar”? It’s a bit peculiar maybe, but Homey’s support for new(er) devices always has been (very) slow.
On top of that, few apps support each and every device out of the product catalog.

Manufacturers never seem to be in a hurry as well when it comes to adding support for 3rd party smart home stuff.
