[APP][Pro] Spotify Connect (beta - ready for testers)

Thats great  Thanks a lot  Hope you finds a solution to Devices going offline to, and it will be possible to start playing directly from homey.

As we say in the Netherlands: I have a hard head in that one. Or: I don’t think that’s ever going to work. The reason why the Spotify app works is that it scans your local network for compatible devices. The API only shows devices as active as long as they were last connected to your account.

So unless there is a way to discover local network Spotify devices… I doubt this is a thing we can tackle.

In the conf spotify api.
8. you have to click on setting button to see the client ID…

If I’m not mistaking you should be able to see them right after creating the app. If you visit the page later there is a chance you need to make some extra clicks indeed. I’ll add it to the installation instructions.

Can I select music and stream this to my Sonos speakers? Or isn’t that possible

That’s mentioned in the first post - known limitations.

Hello,

I’m trying to set up the app, but as soon as it tries to open the Spotify login screen, I get a white screen with this message ā€˜ā€˜Missing required parameter; client_id’’.

It looks like the Spotify login page can’t be reached.
I did the steps as they said in the beginning of this thread.

Diagnostic report code:

Check the instructions under ā€œInstall Spotify Connect appā€. You must’ve missed those or forgot to save them?

FEATURE REQUEST

Please add time for how long the songs are and what timestamp you are at in the song, Thanks!

If homey wants to connect to my spotify, I first have to log in with my spotify account I think?

And at that step I can’t get through that error message, for the rest I have performed every step from the installation guide.

This are the settings in de spotify developer dashboard:

Setup is similar to the official plug-in, only difference is that this app needs to be configured first. Which in short means install the homey app, create a developer account and enter the client ID + Secret in the homey app’s settings and then add the device using the driver. At this last point your Spotify credentials are asked and connected to your developer account for using Spotify’s API.

Step-wise you’d do this (from your phone, but similar to the web environment):

  1. Open Homey App
  2. Click more (bottom right)
  3. Choose Apps
  4. Open Spotify Connect
  5. Click the cog wheel (top right)
  6. Click App Settings
  7. Make sure both the Client ID and Client Secret are set and saved
  8. Go back to the app (step 5) and remove devices if any are connected
  9. Then try to add a new device

Thank you, maybe i read it wrong. It works now and i set it up in the dashboard:

Isn’t that looking sweet! Glad it worked out!

Hi
I can add see y devices during setup, but after setup i get a ā€œdeice not workingā€ error. Any hint?

Are you sure it’s a SpotifyConnect device an no Sonos or Google speaker?

Yes, it shows me during installation all my different devices and i can choose one. Regardless what i choose, i get the device with a red triangel saying that is not working

I suppose that’s instant after adding? Because there is a limitation where the device gets unavailable if you use your phone (for example) to take over the speaker in between. Unfortunately it can’t ā€œtake backā€ control anymore after another device started using it (I guess the native Spotify app utilizes the local network for this).

Hi,
Is a Mac mini with spotify considered a speaker? I just want to play music through the internal speakers of the Mac mini. I’ve tried everything to add them, but the tile shows a red exclamation mark.

  • :white_check_mark: Download the app
  • :white_check_mark: Create a Spotify app as a developer
  • :white_check_mark: Add Spotify app credentials to the app settigns in Homey
  • :white_check_mark: Make sure that the app is installed with the same Spotify account as you use on your phone / pc
  • :grey_question: Make sure that the speaker is connected to said account since this app cannot search your network but only your active devices ???
  • :white_check_mark: Make sure you’re not using a Sonos or Chromecast speaker

Was looking for a better way to see if Spotify was playing through a certain speaker or speaker group. The Google Chromecast extension kept noting as playing … while not playing and vice versa.
The original Spotify app for Homey … got me nowhere.

This after creating it’s own app… knows when its playing, gets the track data etc.
So finally I can block things that would be announced and disrupt the music again correctly … when I dont want them to occur.

So pendojoshua THANK YOU! for this

As for no Chromecast speaker
Im using it with Nest Hub Mini’s, Nest Hub, Next Hub Maxes, setup as Speaker groups and that works jussssst fine

Quick sidenote;
And as a Mac user, I am also using Sleeve (Sleeve 2 — Now playing on your Desktop) and Mediamate (Sleeve 2 — Now playing on your Desktop) to keep me informed locally about everything Spotify is doing. I can’t state how nice that setup works and I will never miss a chance to shout them out.

As always, read post 1 of app topics for (additional) instructions. You’d find this:

Probably the other Spotify app works with Sonos.
