[APP][Pro] Network Printer - ink and toner levels from any network printer

@byackee1 The firmware automaticly updated this morning. At about 2:15 this morning inchanged the setting back again to v1 and till now it is still working.
Let’s see what happens with 1.6.0. I think it will be good.

Thanks.

@Henk_Renting Thank you — that is the confirmation I wanted, and it settles Ricoh.

The firmware version is in the next release. It was already being read on other brands, but by two routes your printer closes. The standard one is over IPP, and yours answers on no path at all. The other is a per-brand address, and I only had Brother’s and Canon’s. Your own report had the answer in it: Ricoh publishes the version at 1.3.6.1.4.1.367.3.2.1.1.1.2.0, and their specification names it as the version of the controller software — so there was nothing left to guess at, only to ask. It appears in the device’s advanced settings. V1.20, if nothing has moved since.

Tray 1 I cannot answer yet, and I would rather say so than guess. I went looking for a Ricoh answer first. There is a private tray table, with a level and a capacity in it — but your model does not implement it: your 104-line report walks straight past where it would sit, on its way to the toner table that did work. So it comes down to the ordinary question every printer gets asked, and there my own report was no use to me. It never showed the paper trays at all.

That is fixed in the same release. Three different printers were giving you the same empty bar, and nothing let me tell them apart:

  • one that sends no tray information at all;
  • one that says “there is paper in here and I cannot weigh it”;
  • one that gives a level with no capacity to measure it against.

Each needs a different answer from me, and the report now says which one you have.

So: once 1.7.0 is out, one more press of Report what a printer answers and paste what comes back. Nothing in the branch box this time — the standard reply is the whole point.

One thing so the result does not disappoint you. Plenty of printers simply answer “there is paper in here” with no number, having no way to measure the stack. If that is what yours says, the bar stays blank and your paper-low warning goes on working from the printer’s own alert instead. That is a real answer too, just not the one either of us is hoping for — and it is the one thing the report could not tell us until now.

No rush at all. Enjoy the holiday; this keeps until you are back.

1.7.0 is in the store. Two small things.

  • Ricoh printers now show their firmware version, in the device’s advanced settings, the way a Brother or a Canon already did.
  • The report button now includes your paper trays. If a tray on your tile has always been empty, that report can finally say why — whether your printer sends no tray information at all, or has paper it simply cannot weigh. Until now those looked identical to me and there was nothing to go on.

Nothing else changes. If your printer is working, this is a quiet update.

@Henk_Renting your firmware version is in this one.

@Mike1233 how has 1.6.0 held up since your printer updated itself? You are the reason the SNMP version stopped being overwritten behind your back, and I would like to know it stayed fixed.

Thanks to everyone who has pressed that report button. Every brand this app reads beyond the standard — Brother, Canon, Ricoh — got there because somebody sent one.

I just watched the connections in the app and noticed that since september the third i get a lot of messages like this. Before that there was no message like this

Anything i can do about it?

I think those relate to when you turn on/off the printer and the app is able to connect (or not anymore) to your printer. I have similar messages (since Aug 24), though not as many.

HP Color LaserJet Pro 3202dw – false “Paper low” with SNMP v2c

Hi,

I’ve found what seems to be an issue with the paper tray detection on my HP Color LaserJet Pro 3202dw.

With SNMP v2c selected, the printer is fully operational and has paper loaded in the main tray, but Homey reports:

  • Status: Other
  • Tray 1 · Any: 0%
  • Paper low: Yes
  • Warning: “Low: Tray 1 · Any”
  • Printer error: No
  • Tray 2 · Any: -

If I change Read with to IPP only, the false warning disappears and Homey reports:

  • Status: Ready
  • Paper low: No
  • Printer error: No
  • Tray 1: -
  • Tray 2: -

So the issue seems specifically related to how the tray information returned through SNMP v2c is being interpreted. The physical state of the printer and paper trays was unchanged between both tests.

There is also a difference in toner readings: SNMP v2c reports approximately 94–96%, while IPP reports all cartridges at 100%.

I’ve attached screenshots of both tests. Please let me know if you need a diagnostic report or any additional information from the printer.

My printer, MFC J4540DW is unavailable after a couple of hours/days. It is going automaticly to SNMP v2, but it is SMNP v1.
If i change it by hand it is automaticly changed to SMNP v2.
Any idea?
