@Tom_Van_Zele that report answers it, and better than I expected. Thank you.

Six of your twelve inks now have a number — C, MBK, PBK, GY, Y, M — and all six came from IPP. The other six are PM, R, PGY, B, CO and PC: Canon’s own colours, which IPP has no name for and cannot match. That is the ceiling of the second protocol on a Pro-1000.

Your printer publishes all twelve anyway. In its private branch, at 1.3.6.1.4.1.1602.1.5.1.6.2.2, it answers with a status document of its own:

PM 10 · R 80 · C 80 · PGY 10 · MBK 20 · PBK 20 · B 30 · CO 100 · GY 80 · Y 10 · M 100 · PC 10 — and a waste tank, MC-20, at 30 %.

Where that overlaps IPP it agrees exactly, on all six, and it flags PM, PGY, Y and PC as low, which matches the four tens. That is the cross-check I would have had to ask you for, and your report already contains it.

So a Canon reading follows, under Brother’s rule: fill only what the standard read left blank, never overwrite a number your printer gave, and say on screen where it came from. Your report hit its size limit part-way through that document, so I have your model’s shape and not yet the general one. Next version, and I will ask you to check it.

For next time: paste the report in a code block, or SunBeech’s Hide Details. The forum ate the angle brackets, so part of what your printer said arrived here as bare text.

@SunBeech you were right that IPP comes after the private branch, and you found a real bug doing it: that section only ever got written for a Brother. Every other printer’s report stopped at the private branch — yours on the row cap, Tom’s on the size cap, neither with IPP behind it. The caps did their job. There was nothing after them.

Fixed in 1.3.1, on test now: Network Printer | Homey
The order of a report lives in one place now, IPP included whatever the brand, and it says so even when IPP does not answer. It is also read alongside the manufacturer’s branch rather than after it, so a long branch cannot run the report out of the ten seconds Homey allows.

I have a Brother printer, the MFC-DW4540W.
In the Brother app for Homey, the printer’s firmware version is also displayed, but it’s not visible in your printer app. Could that be added as well?
The printer can only be read via SNMP v1. When I try v2, I get an “unreachable” message.

@Mike1233 Both of those are in the next version.

Your printer’s firmware version now shows in the device’s settings, under Printer. It is read from the printer itself, so it works on any brand that publishes one — if yours stays empty, say so and I will find where your model keeps it.

Your screenshot also shows why it times out: the device is set to read with SNMP v2c, and your printer answers on v1. You can fix that today — open the device settings and set Read with to SNMP v1. From the next version the app works that out by itself and switches over, instead of telling you the printer is unreachable.

@Tom_Van_Zele Sorry about the timeout, that one was mine: 1.3.1 asked your printer one question too many for the ten seconds Homey allows. The report now stops in time and still hands you everything it managed to read.

When you have the new version, could you press the report button once more and put this in the new box beside it:

That is where your printer keeps all twelve ink levels, and it is the part your last report ran out of room before reaching. With it I can fill in the six colours IPP has no name for.

Have been out for a few days (and will be because of n upcoming holiday :partying_face:), so I came to testing the pp again just now.
My Ricoh still does not show toner/waste tank/tray 1 values (or text) here:

After a couple of hours my printer is not connected to the app anymore.
It is then connected to SNMP v2c, i changed it today for 2 times to SNMP v1.
Then the app is working again.

@Mike1233 That one was mine, sorry. When a printer stops answering, the app asks which SNMP version it speaks — but it only asked for one simple value, and your Brother answers that on v2c even though it can’t actually read anything on v2c. So it kept putting you back there. Next version it checks whether a version can really read a table, and it leaves a setting alone when you’ve already got it right.

@Henk_Renting Your log showed the same bug on the way in: the search finds printers over v2c and pairing just took that, unchecked. Fixed as well.

That’s not why your toner is blank though, and I’d rather say so than have you update and be disappointed. Your Ricoh answers -3 for the toners — “there’s some left, I won’t tell you how much”. The real numbers are in Ricoh’s own private area, and I’ve never seen what a Ricoh puts there.

One press would give me that. In settings, next to Report what a printer answers, put this in the branch box:

1.3.6.1.4.1.367.3.2.1.2.24

and paste what comes back. If it’s empty, try 1.3.6.1.4.1.367. No rush at all — enjoy your holiday.

@Tom_Van_Zele Got it, all twelve. Your ink levels are in the status document Canon’s own software reads, and the app reads it too now — so PM, R, PGY, B, CO and PC finally get numbers.

What convinced me it was safe: six of your inks already had a number in the standard table, and the document gives exactly the same six. Same answer twice, from two different places.

I’ve left your MC-20 maintenance cartridge out for now. Nothing tells me whether 30 means 30 % used or 30 % left, and I’ve already had a waste tank backwards once. If your printer shows you a figure for it, tell me and it goes in.

@Kam Yes. @SunBeech and @Peter_Kawa already had it right — nothing in the app is ink-specific, and a laser usually gives you more rows rather than fewer. Search and it should turn up. If your printer is on a different subnet from Homey, add it by IP instead.

No IPP answer on any of the usual paths. On a printer that Homey found by
itself that is worth knowing: discovery watches _ipp._tcp, so a printer that
announced itself and then will not answer is telling us something.

@Henk_Renting That was exactly what I needed, thank you — and one press, as promised.

Your toners are at 80 %, all four of them. Your Ricoh does know the numbers; it just keeps them somewhere the standard question never reaches. The next version asks the right question, so you’ll see real levels instead of four empty bars.

Two things so nothing surprises you:

  • Ricoh counts in steps of ten — 100, 90, 80, and so on down to 20 — and after that it simply says “nearly empty”. The app shows 10 % at that point, so your low-toner warning arrives there rather than earlier. That’s your printer’s way of counting, not something I can sharpen.
  • The waste bottle stays blank. Your printer admits there is something in it but will not say how much, and I would rather show you nothing than a number I invented.

One small favour once you have updated: have a look at what the printer’s own web page says for the toners. If it also says around 80 %, we are finished here.
