[APP][Pro] Heating Controller with utility prices

Nordpool API has changed, buth url and format, so I guess this is why Heating Controller not working anymore. I got cold water in heater as well.

So I may need to create an another solution at home to get this running again

The power by the hour app seems to fetch the prices correctly. In the meanwhile, had to start the migration to that app in order to get the heating and car charging working.

I understand what you mean. I typically need 3-4 hours of heating based on the average normal usage. I also monitor if the temperature is achieved over a set period. A drop in wattage during heating suggests the desired temperature is reached. If the temperature indicator hasn’t activated for some time, manual heating may be needed.

Looking at the Tibber card, it seems to operate as you described, rather than consecutively. I’ll need to review my logic to ensure it works under these conditions.

If you have other suggestions for using the Heating Controller app, I’d be happy to hear them.

For one day, the app “Power by the Hour”, which I switched to, worked perfectly, but yesterday this app also stopped working :frowning: What now?

@balmli
Since yesterday the heating controller stopped working entirely for me. Any idea what might cause it?
I live in The Netherlands and I have holidays and energy prices set to The Netherlands as well.
Not a single value has been updated for more than a day now. see screenshots:

@balmli
This might set your back some hours to fix the problem and i for one can donate to the cause. Please let uss know if the issue is something that is planning to get fixed :wink:

… today i figured out why the warm water is something cold and my cars battery is flat.
Didn’t recieve an price update for Austria in the last three days :frowning:

Reading the comments… seems like an bigger Issue ?
Thanks Mannni

Hello, I need your help. Today I install this utility. But i have problem with switch between eco/comfort. For example in this time should be set comfort. Could you help me?

agreed, I’m also happy to donate. This app forms the basis of some pretty advanced and important flows for a lot of people. Considering the nature and the intricacy of this app, it should be fixed asap. @balmli I see that this is the repo of the app and it is public. Thank you @balmli for the quick response. I saw you already put a patch out that fixes the problem.

However, here’s a bald idea. Wouldn’t it be better if the utility prices be split into its own app? The heating controller becomes the most important component of the central heating system, so Ideally, I’d like the heating controller app to be as robust as possible with as little dependencies as possible. The utility prices have nothing to do with the main functionality of the heating controller as they are technically not related. However, at the moment, the entire app crashes and stops functioning altogether when it fails to fetch energy prices. That’s not really robust.

If they were two separate apps I can still make my entire heating schedule with the heating controller app and easily tie it together by making a flow like this:
When the utility prices change, and Current price is among the 3 hours of the day lowest prices, set living room thermostat to 20C.
When the utility prices change, and Current price is not among the 3 hours of the day lowest prices, set living room thermostat to 18C.

At the very least, The app should be refactored a little bit so that failing to fetch utility prices would not cause the entire heating controller app to crash.

In addition,
here’s my current heating plan. As you can see, I’ve currently set it up so that every room is only heated when needed, and preheated only when I’m about to come home. It’s a basic schedule and current utility prices are yet irrelevant.
They are not yet in it, because I’m still experimenting on how, if and when it makes sense to do preheating based on utility prices. Factoring these in adds a whole other level of complexity.

Sent a 15 euro donation. Everyone that use and like his app should if they can donate something small to keep the app updated.
