I think this is the same problem as in a bug report on GitHub: meters that also have a “returned energy” counter were mistaken for a second P1 meter, so they were left out of Devices now and the Energy flows.
Version 0.2.14 fixes that, so please update and check whether your meters show up.
If some are still missing, could you send a diagnostic? Use the “!” button in the dashboard, then “Mail diagnosis”. It contains no device names or location. Please also tell me which meter app/brand they are.
0.2.14
Devices with a returned-energy counter next to their normal one, such as a Shelly PM Mini, were taken for a second P1 meter and missing from Devices now, the live energy flows and Use per device. They are now shown as consumers. The live energy flows also show smaller devices now (down to 0.5% of the use, was 1.5%), so fewer devices drop out when a large one is switched on.
0.2.13
New widget Circuits: the load of each circuit in the fuse box, per phase with Other. A device can now be on more circuits, such as a Perilex hob on two: its power counts evenly on each. Devices that are not in Homey (a fridge, a freezer) can be added with a name and their use, and given a circuit.
0.2.12
The EV charger block shows the battery level of every car in Homey, not only the first; a car that is charging gets a lightning icon (when its app reports that). The diagnosis now also shows the direction of the battery power.
Let me know if something still doesn’t look right for you.
With a kWh meter at the solar panels that counts down, such as a HomeWizard kWh meter, the solar history stayed at 0. That is fixed.
False jumps of a kWh meter, such as thousands of kWh up and then back again, no longer count as use.
A HomeWizard kWh meter on a circuit is now shown as a consumer. Before, it was taken for a P1 meter.
After a restart the dashboard goes live faster. Net metering and standby use fill a few seconds later.
The setting for a battery that measures power the other way round is now with the home battery (thanks @Ronald_Otto). The fields of the settings page are now readable in dark mode too.
Let me know if something still doesn’t look right for you.
@Magic_Sunday Great to hear, thanks for letting me know! GitHub or the forum are both fine.
For finding what is still not measured: the Devices now block shows everything with a power reading, and in the Energy flows the part that no device explains is shown as Not measured. The Standby use block helps too: it shows the use that never goes away, day and night.
I’ve noticed another missing device: a Shelly 3EM Gen3, named “Klima energia” in Homey. I realise this may not be the typical use case for this meter, but I’m using it as a dedicated submeter for my three-phase air-conditioning unit, rather than as a whole-house meter.
The device reports power and energy correctly, and the dashboard shows its power in the circuit/group section. However, it is still missing from “Devices now”, the live Sankey diagram and the per-device energy ranking.
Looking at the current code, I noticed that isGridMeter() immediately returns true when d.energyObj?.cumulative is set, without checking energy_cumulative_include. The diagnostic report also shows energyUser.cumulative: true for this device.
Could you check whether the cumulative flag is causing this submeter to be classified as a whole-house meter and excluded from consumers? Would it be possible to support using it as a regular consumer meter when it measures a dedicated circuit, as in this case?
Ps. I have added my dashboard to issue on GitHub as this community is not allowing to paste full code…
And a bit more control about what is displayed per sensor would be cool.
I can read the capacity of the batteries, but only once every x time, since those api’s are a bit sensitive. The batteries also report how fast they are charging and discharging, but that reporting is also way to slow. So i measured the power with an other device.
So basically i get two values for charging and discharging from the same battery. One via the API of the battery, and one from the external power meter.
So here there are all things related to the batteries. What would help if, per device we could select what sensors should be used. This is also usefull for solar panels that have bad API’s and report in an alternative way.
I do understand that it is a workaround for something that should work, but polling the API of the battery simply crashes it. Same with solar btw.
New in the app settings under Devices is a Consumers part. At the top are the devices the dashboard leaves out by itself, with the reason. You can count them anyway. Below that you can leave out a device that does count. There is no need to exclude anything in Homey for this.
A meter that is set in Homey not to count in the total, such as a Shelly 3EM on one appliance, is now a consumer instead of a meter for the whole house.
A heat pump that only reports its electric power as “power in”, such as a Weheat, now shows its watts.
False jumps of a device’s kWh counter no longer count in Use per device.
The solar line of the power chart no longer jumps up and down when the panels only update their kWh counter every 15 minutes.
@Magic_Sunday Thanks, you were exactly right, and thanks for the diagnostic on GitHub.
Your Shelly 3EM carries Homey’s main meter flag, and the dashboard took that as a meter for the whole house. Your energy setting says it should not be included in the total, and since version 0.2.16 the dashboard respects that.
So “Klima energia” is now a normal consumer: in Devices now, the Energy flows and Use per device. Your Fronius smart meter stays the main meter.
The new version also has a Consumers part in the device settings, where you can choose to count a device anyway or leave one out, in case the dashboard guesses wrong again.
@Ronald_Otto Thanks, the screenshots made it clear.
Your panels log no power in Homey, only their kWh counter, so the dashboard works out the power from how fast that counter rises. Your counter moves about every 15 minutes, while Homey stores a reading every 5 minutes. That gave two steps of 0 W and then one step with three times the real power. In version 0.2.16 the rise is spread over the time since the counter last moved, so the line follows the sun like Homey’s own chart.
About choosing the sensors per device: in the settings under Home battery you can already pick which devices are the battery, like your three MT measure devices. Version 0.2.16 also adds a Consumers part under Devices, to count a device anyway or leave it out.
Choosing a single sensor within a device is not possible yet. Which device would you want that for? For example the battery app itself for the charge level, and the MT measure device for the power? If you tell me which devices and which values, I can see how to fit that in.
New is the Meter readings block, with the readings of your smart meter (import and export per tariff), gas, water and the kWh counter of your solar panels, handy to pass on to your energy supplier. If you changed your layout before, add it with the pencil at the top right.
Fixed: solar panels whose app keeps its total yield in a counter that Homey Insights does not log, such as Zevercloud, now count in the solar totals and the power chart. Since the dashboard calculates everything from Insights, earlier days are right straight away too. If you have two solar systems and one was missing from the yield, have another look.
Version 0.2.20 is on the test channel, and since yesterday also 0.2.19.
The Electricity price block now always shows one line with what the grid costs per hour right now: a plus while you import, a minus while you export. So it no longer jumps when a home battery keeps the grid around zero. Today’s lowest, average and highest price are together on one line.
The water heater block now also works with a tank that has a temperature sensor at the top and at the bottom, such as the Weheat heat pump. The shower minutes are calculated from both layers, based on the model of ha-shower-time. The sensors are found automatically, or you pick them in the settings under Water heater. Do fill in the capacity of your tank. When you leave the cold water temperature empty, it now follows the season.
Fixed: Zevercloud solar panels now count in today’s yield, and a false peak of the P1 meter after a power cut no longer flattens the power chart.
Version 0.2.21 is on the test channel.
In the Circuits block you choose at the top whether the load shows in amps or in watts. The EV charger block shows the kWh of the current or last charging session, when the app of your charger keeps it, such as Zaptec. In the settings a Weheat heat pump now also appears in the Heating list.
Fixed: a false peak of the solar panels or home battery after a power cut no longer flattens the power chart, only a device with a water reading can be chosen as water meter, and a home battery whose power Homey does not keep in Insights, such as Sigenergy, now counts in the power chart and the standby use.
Version 0.2.23 is on the test channel, together with what was already in 0.2.22.
The Circuits widget can show the load in amps or in watts, in the widget settings. The Battery use block shows apart what charging from the grid cost, the export you missed by charging from the sun, the import that discharging saved and what export from the battery earned, with the balance of these. Earnings is now called Balance, because energy still in the battery does not count.
In 0.2.23 charging from the sun is called Export missed in that block, and the amounts add up exactly to the balance.
Also new, if you want it: calibrate the shower minutes with a button in the shower. Turn it on in the app settings under Water heater and add the Flow actions Shower started and Shower finished to your button. After 3 showers the app uses the real liters per minute of your shower head, measured with the water meter or from how much the tank cools down.
A few of you asked whether you could give something back for the dashboard. For that I made a page: https://ko-fi.com/wnijhof. The dashboard stays free, a donation is entirely optional. Thanks in advance!
Version 0.2.24 is on the test channel, with two fixes in the Battery use block, found by a user on GitHub.
When the charge or discharge counter of the battery falls back for a moment (a reset or a briefly wrong value), the rise after it counted as charging. That step no longer counts and is listed apart in the block, as After a meter reset, not counted.
Charging that cannot be traced to the sun or the grid was valued as charging from the grid. That part is no longer valued and is listed apart as Source unknown, not valued. The year view also notes that sun or grid is decided per month there, so it is approximate.
This is brilliant. I am slowly learning how to adapt it to my system and how to arrange the dashboard in the most effective manner but right out of the box it’s really impressive.
Please remember though that we don’t all use Euro, I haven’t found a way to configure that.
Personally I don’t care much about absolute numbers when it comes to energy, it’s more important knowing which hours are expensive and which hours are cheap(ish), so for me it’s mostly a cosmetic issue.
@Henrik_Johnsson, you can now choose the currency in the app settings, under Electricity prices. Automatic takes the currency of Homey Energy, or euro when Homey does not give one. Amounts on the dashboard, in the export and in the settings use it. Nothing is converted, so enter your contract prices in your own currency.
For the cheap and expensive hours: if Homey Energy has no dynamic prices for you, the dashboard falls back to EnergyZero, which gives Dutch prices. Set up dynamic prices in Homey under Energy, then the hours follow your own market. If Automatic still shows euro, could you share a diagnosis with the exclamation mark at the top right of the dashboard? It now includes what Homey answers for the currency.
