Hi @Jamie, I am also waiting for the Echo Dot 5 integration. Could you at least comment if you plan to do this in near future ?
Reading above there was an experimental version of your App that worked with Dot 5. Could you still make that available ?
Maybe someone has a clue. Currently I am getting issue to reauth with Amazon. Itâs trying to use my homey IP address with port 3086 which is loading forever and nothing is happening.
@Chris_Starkey donated âŹ25 to the Alexa app, which I have used to purchase a gen 5 echo dot.
When I get a chance Iâll power it up and add it to the app.
To the many many many people who have been asking for the new dot to be supported, perhaps send chris a thank you message.
And to all the people who have been enjoying the the echo show 5 since it came out, you have @Darrell_Etherington to thank who sent me one of his spare devices.
@staeff the instructions in the FaQ are correct, thatâs what you need to supply so the device can be added, or if I have the device myself I can do it myself.
But if your going to do it yourself then you need to do ALL the steps - doing 4 of the steps or 1 of the steps or sending me a half srsed photo which doesnât meet a athoms photo requirements doesnât get you any closer to a solution.
you canât just throw some flour into water and call it a cake.
I received a donation for a echo pop, Iâll purchase when I get a chance.
Regarding that. Just wanted to give you some feedback on the FAQ. I found a few parts that werenât super clear for me, and I think a bit more context might encourage others to contribute too. As I mentioned I donât mind helping out, but hereâs what tripped me up:
A link to GitHub - athombv/homey-vectors-public: Developers can request vector icons for an Homey App here wouldâve been really useful here. Iâm guessing most people wouldnât be able to provide this asset on their own. However, since this option exists for you to use, maybe itâs worth just remove this point and handling the image requests yourself. Otherwise people might spam Athom with requests there.
I was going to use an image from Amazonâs product page, but wasnât sure if licenses would be a problem. Some clarification on that if you expect people to take these pictures on their own or just find one online would be awesome.
For the name of the device - would something like âDot 5â be sufficient, or are you looking for something specific like âEcho Dot (Gen5)â to match other device names from your app? A bit of guidance on how you plan to use these names would help contributors feel more confident in knowing whatâs expected.
Is there any way for us to get the unique identifier ourselves? Like maybe by signing up for an Alexa developer account and getting the info from an API? On one hand you say âI can find these out with some helpâ but on the other hand you say âJust doing 4 of the steps isnât enoughâ. Well at least two steps (4. and 5.) currently depend on us collaborating.
Does this step only happen after you release an update with the new product added, or will there be a test version of the app? Do I manually change something in my local Homey instance? Understanding how the process works and what to do in what order would be super helpful.
Also, please donât get me wrong, but you come across as somewhat bitter in your responses. I totally get how exhausting it can be managing projects like this one as I maintained open-source projects in the past. When I wanted to contribute, I wasnât really sure where to start, and I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, so I imagine others might feel the same. I think if you make the steps a bit easier and lower the entry barrier, youâd get more people chipping in. When I made the effort to clarify guides for my projects I usually noticed a significant increase in valuable contributions. And like I mentioned before, maybe open-sourcing the app could be another option to think about, so you wonât have to tackle everything on your own.
Hope this helps, and thanks again for your hard work! Looking forward to the Dot 5 being added
Everything works very good but after a week or two Homey loses contact. It is very easy to reconnect so there doesnât seem to be any problems with the setup. This is an old issue but I wonder if anyone has some new info.
Iâve been using your Homey Alexa app for over 2 years and I must admit that itâs a must-have for Homey users with Alexa devices.
I had disconnection issues for a few months at first but everything has been working perfectly for 2 or 3 months now and itâs great to add a voice to Homey.
Hi, im sorry if this question is already answered, but I couldn´t find a proper answer.
Is there a way to toggle off a repetitive alarm in an echo dot, for example, if I start a away in vacation flow?
I installed Amazon Alexa for Homey but after several attempts I canât log in with the account and add new devices.
These are the configurations and this is the error that appears.
