[APP][Pro] Alexa - Control your Amazon devices from Homey

I thought it’s an Amazon issue as well.

But there might have been the chance :person_shrugging:t3:

True and you never know until you try.

I’ve been having issues with the app , so I deleted it and re installed and now I can not connect to the Amazon server at all, just comes up undefined error code. Anyone else with these issues ?

Yes i have the same problem. 60 percent of my smart home is now off in Homey pro because I unfortunately relied too heavily on Tuya and they are not compatible either. When I bought Homey Pro, I didn’t expect to have so many problems.

Yes the echo app works great , no login issues there , but unfortunately it only imports echo devices and not other devices linked to the Alexa eco system

I hear you , I have had similar problems . I recently purchased the homey to try and tidy up my smart home network collected over years , was hoping it would help remove some of the many smart hubs I have , failed I still need all the hubs except one zigbee one , read it had the ability to control IR , Fail as that function has been removed , have plenty of WiFi hardware such as Tuya , read it can import those , but a big fail again , ( not homey issue but that of Tuya ) ..

was wanting to change everything over to thread/matter anyway , but guess I’ll have to do that a bit quicker now :joy:

I have the same problem

The app is working for me, which is and seems to be connected for others, I don’t understand why it works for some of us, and not others, I have not had any time to look into it in detail.

It hard to tell from the thread, whether the app is connecting or crashing or both, neither?

I suspect that the connection issues are resolved, (works for me) but the app crashes for some people?

Its not crashing for me which makes it hard to replicate.

Just to confirm what @Kaoh has mentioned, Athom will never make an app that does what this does. Because it is doing something that should not be possible - according to amazon. (IMO)

Its remotely possible in the very very very very very distant future that a matter protocol will be written, rectified and then implemented by amazon that allows other devices to do this communication - but it kinda goes against the vibe of matter which was created for device commissioning and communication - not voice control, so im not expecting anything

In Athom’s defence they are company that works closely with their partners to bring the best possible apps to us, the fact that we are able to have an app at all which does something it is not allowed to do - with a company like amazon - is incredibly open minded.

Many thanks James , i agree that homey are actually limited to what they are able to do and the fact the ecosystem allows great people like your self to find out work arounds and create apps is amazing , and long may it continue .

My problem is connecting and linking to the Amazon account . Please find screen shots below .

Basically the app seems to crash/fail when trying to connect to the Amazon server ..

Many thanks for all your hard work

Sorry just noticed the images are slightly out of order.

  1. click on app settings

  2. the Alexa server window comes up

  3. click connect and the undefined error comes up

  4. click ok on the error and the app just comes up with the connecting ring and stays like that until closed down .

Hope this makes sense

I have tried the following to rectify .

1no) uninstalled and reinstalled the app

Restarted homey

Tried the app with homey on lan only and on WiFi only

Confirmed homey is on the latest update

Hi, I have the exact same problem.

Are there any solutions yet?

I had the same for a lot of time, I just changed to the new Homey Pro, and it was okay till…. NOW.
But now the app is crashed, no app or homey restart helps….

Now I can not do anything at all, it gives me this error

Homey (early 2019, v12.9.0, Germany, Amazon Server EU)

The app v6.0.3 has been working fine for me since updating to v12.9.0. No problems for a week.

The app also worked with firmware version prior to v12.9.0, but the crash icon was displayed even though the devices were functioning. Furthermore, I was only able to connect to the Amazon server in the evenings after 5:00 PM. I tested this for several days and found it to be reproducible.

I just see that in Amazon app it can not see the devices… but till afternoon it was working well

@Jamie hello Jamie have you any idea how to resolve this , I’m pretty sure the issue is with the app and how it connects to the Amazon server . As said previously I can logon via the other Alexa app on Homey no issues at all .

Hi @Mark_Sharples

What do you mean with “the other Alexa app”?
Do you mean the “Amazon Echo” app (Amazon Echo | Homey)?
My “Amazon Echo” app lost connection yesterday and I was not able to reconnect it ever since (see [APP][Pro] Amazon Echo - Looking for testers and contributors - #142 by 4x4_Pete ).

This might suggest, that the issue is more a “global Amazon issue”.

Thank you for replying @4x4_Pete

Yes indeed the other Homey Pro Alexa app by Stephan ( Amazon Alexa ) please see screen shots below . I have no issue connecting to Amazon Server , therefore I presume their is no networking or homey pro issue connecting to Amazon server and must be a problem related to James Peakes App ( please see my screen shots on a previous post here )

Could reconnect my devices in the Amazon Echo app! - But this only worked within a short time period immediately after having restarted the app. - Lets see, how long it lasts…

Having the same issues with Alexa App…..so decided to update to the latest firmware on homey today - 12.9.0. But still getting the same issue with Alexa App. So thought it’d be a good idea to remove it and just re-install it again.

Now i find that i can’t even install apps on my homey pro (early 2019). Suspect the 12.9.0 update has broken something on my homey! one problem to another!….

Very frustrating…..now waiting for support to get back?

One additional piece of important information: I have noticed my system intermittently become very unresponsive in controlling my zwave devices. After a few days of debugging, I finally determined the root cause … when this Alexa app gets in a “crashed” state, Homey attempts to restart. As soon as I disable the crashing Alexa app, responsiveness is back to where it normally is. If I leave the crashing app enabled, I couldn’t even add a new zwave device.
