Works, cheers!

I have 5 gen1 strings and they have the problem mentioned above that they are unavailable.
I send a mail to twinkly with the question when this will this be fixed, but it seems that they are unaware of this problem…

So why is it mentioned in the start topic that this is a known issue but twinkly support itself has no awareness of this problem.

Then a feature request:
Is it possible to add a card to change the effect of the strings (for gen 1)
The gen 1 does not have the playlist option, but Homey could do this perfectly if it was possible to change the effect by flow cards.

The unavilable issue should be fixed, except if you are talking about the dis-/reconnect issue. The device should show a specific status message when it is unavailable. If you see a “Seems offline” status message, then your Twinkly is not connected to Twinkly’s MQTT servers. This could be caused if, for whatever reason, your Twinkly has no internet access. Or lost access and has not tried to reconnect, yet.

The API team at Twinkly is aware of it.

At the moment it is not possible to change any effects through the api at all. But as far as I know, this is planned to be added. I cannot tell if it will be possible for Gen.1 devices though and I cannot tell when. I am not involved in the development of their api at all

With the last update my Christmas tree is not working anymore.

That is basically impossible. There only been changes to make the Homey app compatible to more devices and configuration scenarios. Can you please describe a bit more in detail what is happening? Also, if you are a Homey Pro user please create me an App Diagnostics Report after reproducing the not working feature. For this please head to Homey menu “More…” → “Apps” → “Twinkly” → ‘little gear icon’ → Generate Diagnostics Report

Might just be coincidence. Everything looks fine but you have a device group called ‘Kerstboom’. That one is reported by Twinkly to not being connected to the internet / their servers. Try PTP those, that might help to get them reconnected.

@Shakesbeard
I had some trouble with Twinkly so i have updated to the latest firmware and the latest app.
I use an extender for the wifi signal because i have no signal in the barn. Extender wifi name is the same as the name from the router. Sometimes it works 2 days and then only one hour. After a power off/on Twinkly works for then.
In the Homey app i have an exclamation mark in the icon. It says that Twinkly is not connected.
If i turn of Twinkly with the Twinkly app the icon goes from light to dark in the Homey app.
So Homey sees that is getting turned on and off.

Can you see something weird on this?

For now i have no red autentication error that i have to repair.
Thanks

Hi @Mike1233,
checked your report. I can see only one Twinkly device. And yes, it does say that it is not connected to the Twinkly servers. This can have plenty reasons. Wifi coverage, reconnect problem of the device itself, or something could be funky with the Twinkly servers. Try to PTP the Twinkly for 30 seconds and see if you see any change in stability.
You might maybe also get a wifi scanner app and check whether the signal actually is strong enough for and of your extender. The Homey app also had sporadic commnication errors with the Twinkly servers. But only 2 times. That’s usually acceptable.

@Shakesbeard
Thanks for looking at the rapport. I will first try something with the wifi coverage. That seems the most obvious to me now.
If that is ok for sure i will take a look at the rest.
Thanks.

@Shakesbeardu unfortunately the integration is not working well, always “waiting for device init” - it usually works for few hours, if I :

  • disconnected power from Twinkly lights
  • restart the app
  • repair the device due to the “waiting to device init” message
(usually all of those steps are required to get it working)

Is this known issue please?

diag. after restart today (haven’t cut the power yet) :b27f5331-d6f0-4122-84c1-9c755b81c638 (it’s reporting off while it’s on)

note : I can still control lights using original app without issue

Yes, it is. But unfortunately it is related to the Twinkly api itself and not to the Homey app. Twinkly is aware of this issue. I have no update on it still though. From your description it sounds like the issue where the auth token becomes invalid and cannot be refreshed.

The Twinkly app itself works always as it utilizes a completely different protocol to talk to Twinkly’s locally.

After een reboot of the Kerstboom everthing works again.
Thx for your fast reponse

Am I the only one having issues setting brightness from a variable? Brightness just goes straight up to 100 %, whether the variable is 1, 50 or 25.

Would be very useful to be able to set brightness from variable (I will use it to automatically increase/decrease the brightness the closer/farer we are from Christmas).

Try to use values between 0 and 1 instead of 0 to 100
You can discover the values, by temporary adding a tag to a timelinecard (f.i.) and enter a light’s name

Weird, I tried that but didn’t work, but works now. IT in a nutshell, I guess. Thanks anyways.

Since today I can’t control my twinkly TWS250SPP anymore. I do see the correct state, means when I’m enabling the light via original Twinkly app I do see that it’s enabled as well in the homey twinkly app. However I can’t switch it on or off via homey app. When I press “switch off” it gets enabled again a few seconds later (and it never really switches off).
I repaired it already once and I’ve done an app restart as well as a homey restart. Issue persists… am I alone with this issue?

Deleting and re-adding the devices fixed it for me.

Hello there,
yeah, there still seem to be a few flaws. But they are primarily between the Twinkly device and the Twinkly Cloud API servers. In most of those cases it helps if you unplug your Twinkly for 10s so the device gets forced to reconnect to the Twinkly Cloud servers.

Unfortunately I cannot do anything on the Homey app side to work around this.

Hi, the app is working fine here :grinning: , but is it possible to change/set an effect in stead of solid colors ?
