Any smart switch to handle smart lights?

Yes, in detached mode the only thing the Shelly does is send a signal to Homey “someone turned the switch on/off”. It doesn’t change the state of its internal relay.

So to control smart lights with a Shelly, the checklist is:

  • make sure the Shelly relay is always turned on (as smart lights should always be powered)
  • set the relay type to “Detached”
  • create flows in Homey that trigger on the “switch” signal from Shelly, and turn on/off the smart lights accordingly

Wall switches wont keep the power on…
You need to connect them in such a way that they do not switch the ligt too, at installation!

1 connect your smart switch to the powerline
2 do NOT use the output of the wallswitch to connect your light (leave it unused)
3 connect the “switching” line (black in the Netherlands) directly to the powerline (not to the switch as you have now)

This way the smart light always has power and you can still use the smart switch.

(If you do not use the color function of the smart light its much cheaper to replace the smart light by a normal dimmable bulb and use the functionality of the smart switch. (Use the smart bulb somewhere else)

Thanks all for these tips, given I have invested in Shelly already, give. @robertklep steps I should be able to achieve the desired outcome without any further re-wiring. For those points I don’t have Shelly’s but Aeotecs, I will need to align with @FKey recommendation. Thanks to you both for this guidance.

@robertklep do you have a sample flow you can share based on your final point “create flows in Homey that trigger on the “switch” signal from Shelly, and turn on/off the smart lights accordingly”?

It makes sense, but would really make it clear.

Thanks again Homey community.

Sorry no, I don’t use my Homey for anything :man_shrugging:t3:
