Athoms recent email announcing updates when connecting to Google/Alexa have confused me somewhat.
Using Homey skills in Alexa I have been successfully controlling my Homey devices using Alexa speech commends for quite some time now.
I don’t see what benefits this announcement is providing, although I guess the ability to remove devices off of Alexa may be desirable
What is the best recommend way to integrate Homey with Alexa? Use the Homey skill in Alexa, or connect to Alexa in the Homey App?
I had the same sort of questions, so good to know I wasn’t the only one
Like you, I used the Homey skill in Alexa and have been controlling Homey devices for a while now so am wondering what additional functionality this allows.
I came across your post while investigating a Homey-to-Alexa discovery issue that has now been escalated to Athom’s engineering team.
Could I ask which Homey Pro model you are currently using? If you have a Homey Pro Early 2026, would you be willing to repeat the quick, non-destructive Alexa discovery test described here?
It only involves creating a temporary native Virtual Switch, setting “What’s plugged in?” to Light, and checking whether Alexa discovers it. There is no need to disable or relink the skill or change any existing devices.
If you are still using a Homey Pro Early 2023, that comparison result would also be useful.
