Currently I own a Google Nest camera and doorbells, but due to the recent price change announcement for the storage of footage I am looking into alternatives.
What would you guys recommend as alternatives?
My requirements are:
Wifi-based camera’s (or at least wireless), since I don’t have ethernet where the camera’s are.
Complete local solution. I should be able to operate them without depending on some cloud services and/or recurring payment.
I’m very content with the Reolink Doorbell.
It’s around €110, stores data on SD - cloud use is optional.
Block its DNS requests when you don’t want it to connect to Reolink HQ (AdGuard Home does the job well)
I’ve the powered-by-wire / wifi version.
It works perfect with the Onvif Camera app by Adrian, even visitors (pushing the button) are detected and usable as flow triggers
I’ve had good luck sticking to setups that keep recordings on a local hub or NAS, but I’ve also tried Vivint as a reference point to see how a more complete system handles things. Even though it leans on monitoring, its camera handling and smooth automation gave me a few ideas for setting up local triggers and motion flows in Homey without leaning on paid storage.
