I realize that pairing multiple devices simultaneously isn’t possible with a single pairing session in Homey. However, I’ve noticed the new pairing feature adds extra steps, making it a bit more time-consuming.
I’m trying to set up Homey in an office building, where we have smart light panels across the ceiling. Pairing these lights individually isn’t very practical.
Is Homey designed for this kind of setup, or am I using it in a way it wasn’t intended? Any tips on streamlining the pairing process would be greatly appreciated.
According to this information, Athom has added these additional steps so that the newly added devices can be personalized more quickly.
I assume that most Homey users only want to make their own home smarter. To equip an entire office building with smart devices is probably the exception rather than the rule.
I agree that if you intend to do the full config, being guided to the next options could be faster. In my special case it does not help.
I’ll use another hub that does have ‘batch mode’. In fact, I think that would be a nice new function for Homey: Batch Pairing mode
Of course, I would like this option.
Nevertheless, I assume that this is not what Athom has in mind. Just like generic Z-Wave and Zigbee device drivers. But that’s my personal thought.
Zigbee2mqtt has a “permit join” switch as well.
By default it gets disabled after 5 minutes, or you can choose to enable it permanently at startup until you’re finished adding devices
I guess the main issue with Homey is: in general you have to pick an app and select a matching device before you can start pairing.
In theory batch pairing would only be possible for the same device models only, or for the lights and switches which only need the general zigbee driver.
I believe you can skip the extra steps, by tapping/clicking that option when the wizard with the extra steps pops up. It still is one extra tap/click, but still better than completing the entire wizard.
