anyone who has been able to connect an uyuni candle to homey pro? I find a remote control but I can’t control the candle…

Mine are working.

  • Do you have straight line of sight between the Homey and the lights? It is Infrared and is very delicate.
  • The remote device can turn them on and the flows can do the same. You tried both methods?
  • Also candles needs to be set to “on”, not “timer”.
  • And check that they are not dimmed to lowest setting. I did not found the codes for dim level. If they are new they should be default max dimmed.

Thanks for checking and reporting back.

Thank you! It works when I put it close to my homey, but that’s what not what I hoped for when I saw the app. I wasn’t aware of the infrared control. Thanks again!

Nice to hear. I can suggest using an external IR hub if you need to control devices in a different room separated from your Homey Pro. A cheap device like the Switchbot Hub mini is powerful and can copy signals from any IR remote. You can then add the remote to Homey. I have curtains, button-bots and a cheap led strip all connected to the switchbot hub and they work better than when connected to Homey directly. It has stronger antennas, Bluetooth, IR and RF.

If you want to use the Homey Uyuni app you can buy a Homey Bridge and add it to Pro as satellite. It can then send the signals.

I had the exact same problem as Christer_Nordh above. However, putting the Uyuni LED candle max 20 cm from my Homey Pro 2023 hub fixed it. Now, I would like to put these candles all over the house. What is the best approach? Should I get a Switchbot Hub Mini or a Homey Bridge as externder? Also, should it be put close the the Uyuni LED candles or close the the Homey Pro? Thanks in advance  Also, thanks for the app!

I have mine at least five meters away, with a stone table and chairs in between. Perhaps the IR blaster in your Homeys are damaged?

I know the Switchbot hub has a very strong transmitter and it is cheap, and worth the investment. Then you can add the signals to Switchbot and add it to Homey with the Switchbot Homey app. And it will look like this:

The Homey Bridge has a weak IR transmitter. But will do just fine in the same room as the candles. I plan on adding a timer in the Uyuni Homey app to keep track of the countdown. And a dashboard widget. This you will not get from the Switchbot Hub/app. The Bridge will extend your Zigbee and Zwave networks in addition to IR and Bluetooth.

There are tradeoffs and considerations with both hubs but they will do the same work for the IR candles. The Hubs do not need to be in connection with Honey Pro as they connect through the cloud and wifi. They only need to be in the same room, without thick walls between the devices. IR and bluetooth are sensitive to walls. Zigbee and Zwave do well through walls. Even concrete.

im also using a switchbot, works fine for the airco. But for the candles it only work from a few cm distance

I tested to turn off the candles from Homey Pro 2023 but one Nordic Smooth Classic pillar UL-PI didn’t turned off and it stood near the two candles that turned off.

Update: It is impossible to make Nordic Smooth Classic pillar UL-PI NW-C78020 connect to Homey Pro.

I planned to use the Homey Bridge as remote. I have added the remote in the app and configured it to use the Bridge as remote and not the Homey Pro. But nothing happens when I bring the candles next to the Bridge. But when I bring the candles close to the Homey Pro they switch on/off using the remote in the app whether it is configured to use the Bridge or the Homey pro.

Do you use Switchbot hub with the candles and they only work right next to the hub? Then the candles must have a faulty IR receiver.

Hi. I tested it myself and I do not know why satellite mode is not working. Homey support can not help me. I find lots of other apps not working (their own example app on Github, Samsung, LG). I do however get the general IR device to work. I can not see the source code of this so it is hard to know what is going on. I follow all the official guidelines from Homey.

If anyone see a working app and it’s code I will gladly analyze it and make things happen. I think Homey should update their documentation.

I still await for Uyuni to answer me and to support the app so it can be installed on Homey Cloud. Then the bridge can install the app itself and have its own flows so it can extend the range of the Uyuni lights. But we better get this satellite mode figured out too.

Hi everyone, and thanks for the an awesome app Philipostli.

One observation I did yesterday though: I have both an 2019 and 2023 homey, and the app seems to work fine on 2023, but not at all on the 2019? I’ve tried both via the added remote and via flow on the 2019, but nothing, even when I have 3 lights 1-3cms close to the ball. Has anyone else gotten it to work for the 2019? Would be nice since I have 10 lights spread across my house and the different levels.

Hi. Would you test something for me? Check if the IR transmitter is working by sending the on-signal manually. You can paste a code and send here: Homey Developer Tools

Paste this:

0000 006D 0022 0002 0155 00AA 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 05ED 0155 0055 0015 0E47

it seems like the signal works from the hp23 but not the hp19, used your hex-code and it only started the light from the hp23. Hmmm, does this mean that the IR is broken on mine or that the code is not “correct” on the hp19? I guess the hex code would be pretty much the same between both? Have you confirmed that this works on a hp19?

Cheers for the help,
Zack

Hi.
The app should work on all Homeys that is allowed to install it. Homey version should be over 5.0.0. Check here. I have not confirmed that it is working on Homey 2019 yet.
I also read that the white ball has 6x IR led’s, which align with small holes. They might be blocked. You can use a mobile camera to check if the LED’s work. (You can not see it with your eyes). Try it in a dark room with the rainbow spectrum LED turned of. If there is no signals I suspect something is broken.

Dear Philip,
It took some time for me to confirm this, but it is not something wrong with the IR of my HP19 as it does work with my old TV over the native IR-app, but does not work on any of my many Uyuni lights through flow/the app. I’ve bought some Moes IR remotes and a SwitchBot hub, so I’ll be fine, but If you get the chance to dig deeper into this it would be appreciated.

All the best

I do have the same configuration and the same problem, the IR is working on the pro but not on the configured satelite

Hi. What app do you use for the TV? Can you also check what version of Homey you run on your device? I see they fixed an issue in v10.0.5 regarding long codes. And ProtoHex is pretty long. The TV app might use regular signal definition. I have no reports of it not working on other devices, though most users perhaps have the Homey Pro 2023. It might be an issue with 2019, but I can not understand what the issue would be. The code is pretty simple and straight forward to use.

Yes there are issues with satellite mode with Homey Bridge. There should be nothing to configure or do differently, so I have no clue hos to fix it. Do you use any other apps with satellite mode that is working? Because I tested on several apps without luck.
