🎙️ The Homey Podcast | Megathread

@Doekse, you were talking about supported connected cars. Any news about your contact to Hyundai and Kia for the support of their newer models. The community app developer is not able to support those because the java diffrences of the 2019 vs 2023 model. And since that probably won’t be solved, an official api support by Hyundai and Kia will be needed to support the newer models.

In the podcast you often talk about what new functionality users are looking for. As a Homey user from day 1 there are still two things that I’ve been missing.

  1. monitoring if devices are still functioning. I regularly have sensors that stop reporting updates. In IT we make use of some machine learning. E.g my p1 dongle reports updates every second for years. But suddenly stopped sending any updates then after say 5 minutes I know something is wrong and could report that. My temperature sensors report a change in temp a few times a day. Now suddenly nothing for days. Again a anomaly from normal behavior that could trigger a warning. Hence, in IT we often learn per device what is normal behavior and automatically report anomalies. Off course I could write some flows around this but I have way to many devices to keep this up to date.

  2. handling of long press in combination with dimmers/volume control. This requires an elaborate flow and community app to make it work fine. Doable, but not very user friendly/intuitive.

For the point Nr. 1 there are multiple workarounds though, eg. some HomeyScripts - A script to check sensor last update - #25 by Sharkys

Thanks Sharkys., I will certainly check this out. For me this is probably sufficient and much better then my personal attempts using flows.

However still I believe that this should be a standard function in the system. Or at least after a while set the value to 0 or so. I had a similar thing with powerplugs before. E.g. the plug for the Christmas lights. I unplugged it in January while it was on and kept reporting power usage the whole year, as that was the last reported status.

Are there any updates on groups? Its a feature thats really needed. Juat to group a bunch of bulbs together would be great.

Yeah i have tried this app a few times but found when i use it and have my hue bulbs grouped together (bulbs on hue bridge) they randomly turn themselves on. As soon as i delete the group of bulbs ive created the problem goes away.

So in my kitchen i have 8 gu10 bulbs all connected to my hue bridge and integrated jnto homey. At the minute i have to use moods to control them all which isnt ideal.

Ive also tried using the scenes on the hue bridge itself which works ok but has its limitations with activating a group of bulbs with a button and setting them to a hue/dim setting.

A post was split to a new topic: EV Charging Missing from Energy Dashboard After Update

Ah, bummer…

Serious question though:
What do we need for Device Groups and listing logic cards under devices in the “AND” part of creating flows, @Doekse?

It should be in beta, so public?
I don’t see it in the changelogs of both Homey firmware and app…
(Bit sad that the changelog of the app never mentions beta versions)

Cool podcast and happy birthday

In the podcast mentioned groups are in beta now ?
Can’t see it in teatflight of beta firmware

Maybe I could use HomeyPrint to print a test page once every week or two and avoid my printhead to dry out
