🎙️ The Homey Podcast | Megathread

Groups app has been here for years.

I found the < groups > app unreliable for me. Lights stop respoding and go out of sync. A native homey app baked in is a welcomed addition

I agree with the native homey solution. I have +50 light bulbs over 14 zones. So 14 groups. It happens to me maybe twice a year that a bulb gets out of sinc or doesn’t go off at all.
I notice I can’t ungroup a zone one by one. I have to de-install the group app. By doing that +30 flows will be be broken at ones. This means I will take my loss.

If I understand correctly the new “Groups” function will be limited to lights and curtains. I have to say that I find it a bit limited.
In my case for example I would be interested in making a group between RGB bulbs and the sonoff switch that I use to turn it on/off.
Another use of the groups that I would need is to combine a smart plug, the washer and a water leak sensor in order to have a single device with the capabilities of the washer, the power meter and an alarm in case of water leak.

@Doekse if I understand correctly this, at least in the initial phase, will not be possible, right?

Thanks all for your precious hard work! Any idea when streaming rtsp camera will be released?

Is there a list of all Solar Inverter manufacturers you are building an official app for? Is Solax for example one of them? There is a Solax community app, but this app takes the Solar power from Solar panels to the Inverter, and not the Inverter output power (so minus the energy losses during DC->AC). And this is available from their API so it can be done.

@Doekse:
The latest app update v9.3.0 (beta) mentions that it should have device groups when at least Homey v12.4.2 rc3 is installed, but I don’t see the option, although I am on v9.3.0 and v12.4.4.

Class is set to lights in advanced settings, but still no option for device groups.

It should work with Homey Pro (Early 2023) running version 12.4.5 or later!

Thanks for the clearification @Doekse. Is that an upcoming final version or RC, or one of the rc’s already released (currently v12.4.5-rc.7)? I do not see any remarks of Device groups in the already released rc’s…

Bit confusing that both Testflight and Google Play Store changelogs say v12.4.2-rc.3 (or up) is required…

Installed app version 9.3 and homey version v12.4.5. stable.
But still no group button

same here!

If you’re on IOS you can install the test flight version of the homey iOS app and then the group option is available.

Works great, finally can assign a button press to turn lights on and off in a group. I only use Hue bulbs and using the hue app the only thing missing would be a card to toggle a group of lights. Theres an option to turn off and on but no toggle.

Hi,
why isn’t this new feature also available for the Homey Pro (2016—2019)??

I’m really happy that I’ll be able to group my lights and window blinds in my new house!
I do understand that it’s not really feasible that every device can be grouped with any other device.
However, I wish I could at least group/fuse a power socket/meter with any other device. This would allow me to add energy metering to any smart device in order to have it show up in the energy tab.

But then you assume that you will be able to see the group as a separate “device” in the Energy tab. I am not sure it works like that for a group.

This is something that’s on our mind! Something like What's plugged in?[Existing device]

Will try my luck - recently I faced a situation, where due to the malfunction, I had to remove roller shutter device, to that roller blinds can be repaired. As this is ZWAVE device behind the electricity switch, it will be again a pain pairing it back and looking for DSK PIN, but prefer this way instead of modifying all my flows and/or repair grouped devices later. In case of Zigbee device, such state however would impact the stability of the Zigbee mesh.

I realized we don’t have “Disable device” end user option, which in such cases would be a much simpler and user-friendly option. It would need to be a state, which end user will clearly distinguish from others - eg. error / turned off, but you already showed in the past clever ways how to handle such cases.

What do you think ?

Question about the new device group feature, in the case where you are grouping zigbee lights will this feature then also create a zigbee group for the lights in that device group?

Nope, it is Device type/protocol independent, therefor called Device Group and not Zigbee group

Too bad, can we get zigbee groups somewhere on the backlog? @Doekse
