Smart Doorbell - which to buy

Hi all,

I’ve seen posts related to this one, but many of them quite old (2018) or only mentioning a few devices… In general, I want to buy a video doorbell that can do the following:

  • notify me when someone is at my door
  • stream the device current video (can be through the device’s native app) and have bidirectional conversation
  • provide me with a snapshot if possible
  • ultimately, I would like the device to show the stream in a dashboard
  • be wired to my current (‘stupid’) doorbell gong and power
  • not have an obligatory subscription (it’s okay if it has a subscription for fancy gimmicks that I don’t want, but I would like to have the above without subscription)

I’m not really tied to a brand, but I’m mainly looking at ring, rheolite, nest or eufy.
However, I’m reading that some of these brands require subscriptions (nest, ring), others may be rather slow making sure that notification only comes through when the person is already leaving (eufy?),…
So, in general… I require advice and some more recent experiences.
Which device would work for me?

Thanks for the feedback!

Homey has a buying guide which is really good. Take a look at the doorbell buying guide here.

Personally I don’t like the feeling being watched by video doorbells. Makes me quite self-aware and uncomfortable at other people’s doorbells. So I sold my video doorbell and hang up a security camera (different angle) and bought the Trust doorbell. I made a flow that which zone is activity, a sound will be played in that zone on the SONOS speakers. And it’s cheap too!

O, super! I was not aware of the webpage you linked, and hadn’t found it on earlier searches throughout the web. Great help, thanks!
