Options to extend Homey pro (e-2019) range to garage?

Hi Guys!

I got Homey Pro Early 2019 and are quite happy with the setup. I don’t need matter/thread and the max no of apps is enough for me. I need to extend the automation to my garage about 60 m from the house and the only solution I can find is:

  • Use Wifi devices (Cat6 to garage and a wifi AP)
  • Combine above with a Hue bridge or Ikea hub to at least get Zigbee support.

For me the cost to go with a 2023 pro with a bridge is not really worth the buck and as far as I know there’s no way to add an additional Homey as a slave regardless of if it’s a Pro or bridge.

Any suggestions and ideas are welcome (searched the forum but found no other solutions)

Cheers!

If you can get WiFi in the garage, you can use WiFi/Cloud devices (Tuya, WiZ, etc.)

i bridge 30meters without issues using zwave extenders on both sides. due to the relatively low frequency (868mhz) 60m might be working , but only line of sight, so no trees, structures in between.

then the other devices in the garage connect via the extenders to homey.

another option might be shelly lora, but i have no experience with it (still on my todo list)

Thanks for the replies. Yes I know wifi is an option but I have quite a lot or Z-wave and Zigbee devices that I want to use. Unfortunately there is a fence and minor trees and a hedge beteen the house and the garage. I could still try the extender but I wouldn’t bet that it would be too reliable…

Extend your zwave and or zigbee mesh by adding some zigbee garden lights between the house and the garage (powered zigbee devices act as bridge)

You can also use a Hue bridge, that will work for almost all basic ZigBee lights and smart plugs.

For Sonoff ZigBee devices, the Sonoff ZBBridge-P might work, since Homey has an eWeLink app.

For Tuya ZigBee devices, you can use a Tuya ZigBee or MultiMode gateway to connect in the garage and then use the Tuya app on Homey

What are the types and brands of the devices you want to use in the garage?

That’s not a bad idea, I should have thought about that the powered devices act as repeaters… Not ideal place for lights but I think it would work better than two extenders far away from eachother. Then again the Hue bridge is quite cheap and would solve most of the Zigbee-needs even if Homey lacks a few functions when goint through the bridge. Thnx"! /F

Yes, additional hubs was, as i wrote initially my first thought. I run mostly Hue and Ikea for lights and stripes and Aqara for sensors. I also have a few Fibaro multisensors and plugs that I’d like to use but I can move them into the hoese and switch them for existing zigbee devices/lights. Z-wave isn’t a “must have” and it’s probably better for both mesh networks to split the protocol to the two places.
