Mobile app still stuck on v9.9.0 – anyone else?

The mobile app on my Samsung Galaxy S23 is still on version 9.9.0. And Google Play still shows version 9.9.0 as the latest version available to me, released on March 24 this year.

It seems strange that it takes so long for new versions to be rolled out to users. No fewer than three stable releases have been published since version 9.9.0.

So I still haven’t received versions 9.10.0, 9.10.1, or 10.0.0. My wife hasn’t received the newer versions on her Android phone either.

It feels quite odd considering that the version I have is now relatively old.

I’ve had to wait a couple weeks before I received newer than 9.9.0. It appears that the rolling updates for these releases are rather stretched over a very long period. Maybe because of the major changes to the UI? I guess only Athom might know about it.

But I’ve waited for more than just a couple of weeks… I’ve been waiting for three and a half months.

And in the meantime, three releases have been made, and none of them have been available to me.

It’s probably your version of Android that is to blame

My version of Android? I have Android 16 with all the latest updates for that version.

Android 17 was released three weeks ago.

My Android version can’t be the problem. Most people are probably still on 16.

I also have Android 16 and it’s already available for me, I also checked an Android 13 device and it’s also available there. Have you joined the beta? Then you can get updates quicker. It sounds like a rolling update to me

Nope, not beta. I’ve decided not to join the beta this time and just be an ordinary user. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s definitely a rolling release, but an extremely long one, I hope.

I haven’t just missed one version — I’ve missed three!

I guess my turn will come… eventually. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Maybe the updates are visible / installable when you use the browser version of the app store https://play.google.com/

Perhaps killing the Google Play app and clear it’s cache helps as well.

Thanks, but I’ve tried that several times. It doesn’t make any difference. I even tried clearing all data for Google Play, not just the cache, but that didn’t help either. Very strange. No matter what I do, it still shows the latest release as March 24, version 9.9.0.

Other apps on my phone are updated frequently.

We are doing something called a staged release. This means we roll out an app release to an x% of users for a little while before increasing it. So we can catch issues before they reach most of our users, especially with bigger features and changes. Depending on the changes this might be longer or shorter. 10.0.0 release is currently available to 50% of the users. That explains why you have not gotten it. We will increase the % soon and roll it out to everybody.

Thank you very much for the reply. That confirms what several of us suspected. It did feel a bit strange, though, that I haven’t received any of the three latest stable app releases. But perhaps you haven’t rolled any of them out to 100% yet, and I’ve unfortunately just ended up in the ‘wrong group’ three times.

Catch issues?

No thats called using your consumers as defacto beta testers

You’re not using customers as beta testers with this. A/B tests are done by almost every company/app to check user interaction between 2 versions.

It finally happened. Today I got version 10.0.0. At last! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Versions 9.10.0 and 9.10.1 were skipped.
