mDNS discovery issues on Homey SHS (TrueNAS) - solved

I wanted to share an issue (and solution) I ran into, in case it helps someone else.

I was having problems with device discovery on my Homey SHS running on a TrueNAS server. A few HomeWizard devices and some Google TV devices were not being discovered at all. On my Homey Pro 2023, mDNS discovery worked perfectly fine, but on the SHS I couldn’t get any devices to show up.

After a helpful tip from @Jeroen_Tebbens (thanks!), asking whether I was running any kind of firewall or proxy on my NAS, I decided to do a quick test and temporarily disabled my NGINX Proxy Manager.

As soon as I did that, mDNS discovery on the Homey SHS started working. Interestingly, after turning NGINX back on, mDNS discovery continued to work and the previously missing devices were still visible.

Hopefully this can help anyone else who’s running into mDNS discovery issues on Homey SHS, especially when running it on a NAS with a proxy or firewall setup.
