Last week the Lidl Zigbee lights were on sale and I bought a couple of them to replace some lights from other brands.
I did not manage to add them using the Lidl app: none of the lamps was recognized. In the end I did it via the Tuya Zigbee app and I was able to add them all. Again, none of them was recognized so they were added as generic Zigbee devices. But it works, except for one thing: dimming.
For my lights I use dimming a lot: usually I do not simply turn them on or off in my flows, but in most rooms I have created multiple scenes with different dim levels for every light. Works great. But with all of these Lidl lights, it simple doesn’t respond the first time when I change the dim value. Not when I do it manually in the app (the first change nothing happens, only every second time the dim value actually changes) and neither when using flows (same behaviour).
It doesn’t matter if I use E27 bulbs, GU10 spots or garden lights: all of them have the same issue.
Does anyone recognize this issue and was someone able to solve it, apart from having to dim every light 2 times in every flow (which works, but is kind of messy)?
I have several Lidl filament lights in zigbee2mqtt, and they respond very well to any command.
So I think the lights themselves are not the issue here.
Maybe there’s issues with your zigbee mesh, or interference by your, or your close neighbor’s, wifi signal.
Actually, Zigbee lamps should also work without a special app. This feature was already introduced with firmware version v7.1 for the HP19 (and earlier) (see blog). But if it doesn’t work properly, then you should contact Athom.
The fact that the lamps are not recognized by the Lidl app may be due to the fact that these are new versions that are sold under the same name. It happens again and again that the manufacturers change something in the devices / lamps, and these then get a new ID. If this new ID has not yet been added to the Lidl app, then the lamps will not be recognized.
You can ask the app developer to add these lamps. For this you need to make an interview (Developer Tools → Zigbee → 3 dots → Interview) and give this information the app developer. Contact options can be found in the App Store in the gray field below.
Another reason could be a problem with the Zigbee network, as already mentioned.
As far as I know you own the HP23, correct? Because it could be a bug in the firmware, I would contact Athom and ask the Lidl app developer to add this to lamps.
Does it really make sense to mention Zigbee2MQTT? Are your Lidl lamps also brand new?
Why don’t you both interview the lamps and compare the interview? Then we know already if the models are identical or different.
What surprises me the most is that the issue only exists for dimming the lights: turning them on or off, or even changing the color, all work perfectly. Always. But when you want to change the dim value, you will have to do it twice, otherwise nothing will happen.
I will try to add them as Homey Zigbee devices to see if that solves the issue.
If you want we can compare the lights to see if anything has changed. I do not use any Lidl filament light though, I only bought a couple of RGB lights now (E27, GU10, Garden spots and led strips). All of them have the same issue.
