Homey Pro software support extended to June 2031

Athom posted an article on their site regarding extended support for Homey Pro:

So can we expect a new Homey model (or a minor update at least) next year then? 2026 + the regular 5 years of software support = 2031.

It’s good news of course, but I find it all a bit backwards.
The support period shouldn’t start counting from when a product is introduced, it should run from when deliveries stop. Good customer care is offering decent support for a reasonable time even for those who buy it later in the production run. HP 2019 was sold up until late 2022 IIRC but apart from a few paid upgrades it now barely gets bug fixes.

It doesn’t say untill when the current Homey Pro will be sold, so what @robertklep says may be correct (speculation!)

And the old Homey still gets firmware updates, so not ‘barely gets bug fixes’ that’s a false claim.

Next update Athom will even make sure all Homey platforms will be using the same Nodejs version for apps. That’s a huge boost for Homey 2016 -2019 making app development for it way easier and less time consuming. For example I’ve been able to shrink the size of my Ring app by 20% due to this. And more importantly, I no langer have to test everything on each platform, cutting the time I have to spend on testing almost in half!

Well, I didn’t say there were no updates, but it feels like it’s mostly updated translations and the bare minimum of fixes. I’ve had my white ball for quite some time and received years of upgrades. Had I bought it in 2022 I would have been quite disappointed seeing how steeply things slowed down as soon as HP23 was released.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t aware of the coming upgrade to a supported NodeJS version, and I’m pleased to see that it’s planned even for the old models, showing that my earlier remarks were somewhat off the mark. That is definitely a major improvement and it will also make it more likely for upgrades in current products to make it to the old ones.

I still have the “old” spherical model. What’s the end of support date on that one?

I agree with the speculation and assume there will be a new Homey in 26 or 27. Start saving your money now.

I wonder the same thing.

Something new, maybe we will see it at CES?
