Homey Pro + KNX: Detecting manual wall-switch dimming versus automatic dimming

Title: Homey Pro + KNX: Detecting manual wall-switch dimming versus automatic dimming

Hi everyone,

I’m using Homey Pro with KNX lighting controlled through Advanced Flows.

My goal is to let automatic lighting work normally, but preserve a manually selected dim level until the lights are switched off or everyone leaves home.

Current setup:

  • KNX wall switches: short press for on/off, long press for dimming.
  • Automatic dimming via Homey Advanced Flows (77%, 42%, 30%).
  • A Boolean variable prevents automatic dimming when manual override is active.

Problem:

The KNX device trigger “The dim level changed” fires during manual dimming, but also during ordinary switching and automatic changes.

Using “Is on”, delays and comparing dim levels has not provided reliable detection.

Known group addresses for one lighting circuit:

  • 1/0/20 — Switching command
  • 4/0/20 — Switching status
  • 3/0/20 — Dimming command
  • 5/0/20 — Dimming status

I’m considering the generic KNX Advanced Flow trigger that listens for values published to a group address, specifically 3/0/20 using DPT 3.007.

Questions:

  1. Can the official Homey KNX app reliably detect DPT 3.007 relative dimming telegrams, including dim-up, dim-down and stop?
  2. Can it distinguish physical wall-switch commands from dimming initiated by Homey?
  3. Has anyone implemented a reliable manual override for KNX lighting in Advanced Flows?
  4. Are there known limitations or better approaches?

I’d appreciate practical examples or screenshots of working Advanced Flows.

Thx David.
