Homey Device Zone Organization for Dashboard Management

With the introduction of robust dashboard capability, it appears device zone management may be a challenge for a number of us. I’m curious what others feel is the best practice for defining device zones and nesting of sub zones.
I’m probably well behind others in setting up a true dashboard. I setup zones either by device manufacturer for ease of finding them when creating flows, or very general zones without much nesting. The dashboard capability and some of homey’s enhancements have made me re-think my approach.

  1. Do others take a simpler approach and just create single floor zones (first, second, yard, etc)

  2. Do others create room nests under the above simple approach (First Floor > Family Room, First Floor > Kitchen, Second Floor > Bedroom Primary, etc). Value is to turn on all lights or other devices in a smaller discrete zone.

I started with option 1 above but am headed into option 2 which might be a rabbit hole. I’m possibly over thinking my direction and don’t want to over complicate my organization.

Thank you

I use option 2 and in some places (logical grouping of a number of related devices), have even gone one tier lower. This mostly helps me find devices, such as during writing flows.
However, i use the Groups app for the purpose of controlling a number of bulbs together such as changing colour, temperature, brightness etc. Much easier for keeping devices synchronised and also simplicity of writing flows.
For example, each spotlight bulb is a separate device in my kitchen, and there are 14 in total, plus some feature lighting. But logically there are only 4 groups.

Thank you. I do use a manuf. name first when naming a device for ease of finding devices, then location and device for same purposes of identification. Have not used a lot of groups yet but probably should, makes sense.
