Would be nice if Athom communicated about such changes; there’s nothing about it in the Google Play Store description or at Homey Mobile App Changelog | Homey
(please correct me if I am wrong)
On iOS you can only use “Guided Access” for now (unless Athom has more features built in that they haven’t told us about yet).
Works a bit different, but it might suit you.
Then the Homey App is locked until you leave Guides Access.
Emile describes it here under point 4 and 5 (at the end of his first post):
Question: Does anyone know of a website address that can be used in the Homey dashboard for upcoming energy prices? I am with the energy supplier Tibber, and with the Power by the Hour app, you can add a camera with the prices, but the hours cannot be read due to Athom placing the camera text right there. @Doekse perhaps it’s a good idea to make the camera name optional, just like the camera image gradually fades to dark at the bottom (fading out)
Also on the dashboard screens, and that you can setup a start dashboard, and go to the energy screen (or other screen) without first “close” the dashboard.
That would make it a lot userfriendly in my opinion.
I find that the widgets on the dashboards are really too small, especially when you want to consult the screen from a distance. For example, with an 11-inch tablet, it’s virtually impossible to read the information from 3 or 4 meters away without having to move closer. This limits the interest of a dashboard, which for me should be a tool for monitoring and steering performance, offering a clear and legible overview of activity, even from a distance.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to natively offer an option to increase the size of widgets for better readability, especially in cases where no direct interaction with the screen is required?
What do you think about this? Have you encountered the same problem? And what solutions do you use to make your dashboards more readable?
Since you asked for my opinion, totally not interested in this function. I think it would look horrible. I have no interest looking at my tablet unless I am walking by.
The function you want would be nice for my grandma who is 95, having bad eyes and can’t get out of here chair
Your example with your grandmother is amusing , but it highlights a reality: an option to enlarge widgets could make dashboards more inclusive and accessible to people with specific needs (such as sight problems or mobility difficulties).
I have also a wall mounted tablet, with a on a part of it a rtsp camera screen.
Now only 1/3 kolom with the camera view is to small, 2/3 view would be great.
Even if I’m in the 50, not 94 (stupid comparision from some people)
Sorry Paul for the ‘stupid’ comparison. At least ODE thought it was amusing.
But it looks you two are asking for two different things. ODE wants all the widgets larger. Paul just one particular widget. I agree with Paul. I have a Google calendar. I would like to have it 2 colums wide or maybe even fullscreen.
Having a tablet mounted to wall to control everything in your home seems like the natural next step for smart homes. Right now the dashboards are very limited in terms of customisation. We need the ability to customise icons and their size for flows so that we can create a dashboard of flows that are practical and aesthetically pleasing, rather than a dashboard filled with green play icons with text. Homey pro’s would probably sell better if you were offering an attractive and practical user interface for the home.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t. All of the flows on that dashboard are all just green play icons with text. Sure you can have some widgets from a small list to break things up a bit, but they are all either very product specific or just very general use widgets like clocks. I’m talking about being able to actually customize each item on your dashboard so you can have the appearance and layout you really want.
This is not what Athom’s after, they provide an easy to understand Home Automation Platform for the masses, high personalization or customization is not their aim.
And the dashboard is more about giving you insight in your automation, not just another fancy device to manually push buttons on to do stuff.
(It would realy bug me if I had to get off my couch or out of bed to walk to a wall mounted iPad to start a flow, imo I should never have to worry about starting tasks (flows) by hand, but that’s just me I guess)
