I am trying to make a flow to put Samsung The Frame TV in art mode (the TV orginally in off state).
I am using the Smart Things app.
Using the “toggle on/off” command seems only to work when the TV has been turned off for a short time. If it has been turned off for a longer period, the toggle on/off turns the TV on, instead of putting it in art mode.
Has anyone found a good solution to this?
I have a non-Frame Samsung TV (so this may not work). The Samsung SmartTV-app for Homey allows you to send specific key presses via a flow to your Samsung TV. The following THEN card enables ambient mode, in my case. I assume this is the art mode on a Frame model:
Unfortunately there is no Art Mode option, and it’s not possible in the official SmartThings Routines either, although six years ago they said they would consider adding it one day.
Not sure, but is Ambient Mode not the same as Art Mode? The app (linked in my earlier post) can send a keypress that enables Ambient Mode.
I can confirm that sending the “ambient mode” key to the Frame actually puts it in art mode(!!)
I’ll test whether it also works when the TV has been turned off for a longer period - and will post back when I have tested it.
Thank you @SunBeech !!
I have now tested this for a few days, - and can confirm that it actually works!
So for anyone else looking for a solution to this:
You should use the Samsung SmartTV app (the one from Bjørnar Almli, - and not the official Samsung TV or Smart Things app). And then you simply choose the THEN card “Send key Ambient mode”. This will put your Frame TV in art mode.
Thanks a lot again, @SunBeech ![]()
That’s not entirely true, I’m afraid. That puts the Frame into Ambient mode, not Art mode. These are two different features.
That’s what I thought, too.
But it seems to put my The Frame TV in what for practical considerations seems to be art mode.
I hear you, but it’s not Art mode. Art mode is a specific feature of the Frame TVs. This is still outstanding as a result.
@Givemelove: My general understanding is that art mode is more energy efficient than ambient mode. Do the Samsung ‘The Frame’ TV models have both ambient and art mode? If so, then indeed there would be a difference. This also means that, based on the current Samsung SmartTV app for Homey, there is no option to put the TV in true art mode (only ambient mode).
@jco : If indeed The Frame TVs have both modes, then you might want to reach out to the developer of the Samsung SmartTV app (via the forum section: [APP][Pro] Samsung SmartTV) and ask whether he would be willig this add the ‘Send key’ option for art mode, assuming it is available in the TV’s API.
@SunBeech Yes, that is correct. Art mode is more efficient than Ambient Mode and yes, the Frame is capable of rendering both Art and Ambient modes.
Check out this guy’s work. He’s identified the changes to Samsung’s commands to trigger Art Mode. He does it with websockets, FYI.
I can’t find ambient mode anywhere in my The Frame menu or settings. Saw something somewhere on the net about Samsung having discontinued ambient mode on the newer The Frame models.
