Dashboard in kiosk mode for a guest user

I have an iPad for guests, with the ‘Guided Access’ function it only runs Homey and users can’t quit that app. On Homey a guest account is running. I have made a dashboard for the guests.
Somehow I can’t get the kiosk mode running to prevent the guests using the rest of the Homey app. It seems that this function is not available for guest users?
But when I make the account a full user, the people can change all kinds of device settings from the dashboard, so thats also not an option.

Is this a bug in Homey? Is there are workaround?

I think the only work around is to only put things on the guest dashboard that you want guests to use and then make the guest a full user and put the dashboard in kiosk mode. Then guests will only be able to operate things on the guest dashboard.

Wouldn’t it be a bit odd to have things on the guest dashboard that they don’t have permission to control in any case?

As a guest user, they could start flows and control devices (switch on/off, change the light color and brightness, etc), which is good. As a normal user, they could make changes to the configurations of the items on the dashboard - that is not good.

Ah. Got it. Yes that makes sense. It seems very odd that guests can’t start dashboards in kiosk mode. Might be worth raising that with Athom support in case it was an oversight.

I did that indeed, and already today they confirmed to address the issue in one of the next updates.

I think the idea behind kiosk mode is:
The owner starts a dash for the guest to use, and locks it with his/her/else password.
Now the guest (or anyone else in reach of that device) can use that specific dashboard (set).

When we want a guest to open the app and then a dashboard, then the following possibility should be added for a (guest) user:
Owner assigns a password to a (specific) dashboard (set).
Now when the (guest) user opens the app, the (guest) user can only open that (specific) dashboard (set), bypassing all the other app functionality.

I think Athom should split the Homey app and the dashboards into two separate apps.

I recently bought a Samsung Tablet on Android, installed Homey Pro app, created a user for it, and put it in Kioskmode… Only, the ‘user’ can allways end this kiosk mode whithout a password… ? How can I use this table ONLY for use of Homey Pro and in Kioskmode WITH a password?
Many thanks for your replies,

You’re ought to login to the app as owner, and create a dashboard for anyone on that specific device.

To be clear, do not adjust the home screen: Homescreen = user bound, Dashboard = device bound.

Now, when you lock the dash, the user can’t unlock it with his/here/else pw

Like I wrote earlier on, the dashboard misses out on some crucial user management & locking options.

I followed exactly your guidelines, but the user can stil ‘excape’ from the Dashboard… It is a Android tablet… Please see the attached picture.

If I (as owner) start kiosk mode, I have to enter my Homey account password. Next if I press the X button to close/exit kiosk mode, the app again asks for the Homey account password. I cannot exit kiosk mode without entering the said password. This is on iOS/iPadOS.

On Android, does the Homey app not require you to enter a password?

The Homey app is just an app. If you want to lock the whole tablet on Homey app, you need an app line “Fully Kiosk App”.

It worked… I received an message that the firmware needed an update, I accepted and afterwards, when pushing longtime on the ‘Dashboard’ I indeed received the option to enter the pasword… Many thanks for all your help!!!
