I’ve been experimenting with something new for my Homey Dashboard
I’m currently developing an iOS app called Mikonus that creates an interactive 3D model of your home for smart-home visualization and control. I’ve been sharing the development progress [here in the developer thread].
Over the last few days I’ve started working on a Homey Dashboard feature for Mikonus — bringing the same interactive 3D home from the iOS app directly into Homey Dashboards.
The devices shown inside the 3D model are actual Homey devices, so they can be controlled directly from their position in the house and their state is reflected in the scene.
There’s still quite a bit to work on — multiple floors, automatic brightness/background adaptation for light and dark mode, different dashboard sizes, and possibly a smaller widget version.
I’d really like to hear from people using Homey Dashboards: what would you expect from something like this? What would actually make it useful on your dashboard?
I’m especially interested in things I might be overlooking because I’m currently building it around the way I use Homey.
And a screenshot, since the GIF compression isn’t exactly kind to the 3D rendering.
That looks really nice! Is this basically a dedicated Home Assistant dashboard embedded into Homey using the Web Page widget?
I’m curious how interactive it is: can you tap the devices directly in this Homey view to control them? And how do you create/edit the floorplan – is it a rendered image with HA elements on top, or an actual interactive 3D model?
Nice, thanks! That looks really cool.
I’m actually working on something similar for Mikonus, but with the goal of making the setup much simpler — no Home Assistant, Sweet Home 3D or extra tools needed.
Build/scan the home in Mikonus, place your Homey devices and publish it to the Homey Dashboard. That’s basically the idea.
Yeah, the result is definitely worth it!
I’m basically trying to keep the result and get rid of the “spend a lot of time” part with Mikonus.
And it should stay fully editable afterwards — move things around, change rooms, add devices, tweak the setup and republish whenever you want.
@schmucke its really great what you are doing…I liked it so much that I’d like to start a project too…may i ask you please a question because aim new in this topic and aim currently try to read in to be able to know how i can start and what i need to make it right.
Do i understand it right, you program a app for iOS where i can create simple my home in 3D view which i can import to my homey?
Is this app availible for iOS and PadOS and when do you think you will release it?
How can i import the Floor plan to homey, is there a App which i have to install on Homey?
Thanks a lot @Rammstein ! And no worries — these are absolutely valid questions.
Yes, you understood it correctly:
Mikonus is already available for iOS and iPadOS.
You can create your home directly in 3D, including rooms, furniture and smart-home devices — no separate floor-plan software is needed.
The upcoming version will add the dashboard export. You create your home in Mikonus, assign your Homey devices and publish the complete scene directly to Homey.
For this, there will also be a Mikonus app/widget for Homey that displays and controls the 3D scene in the Homey Dashboard.
Once published to Homey, the Mikonus dashboard can also be used on Android tablets through the Homey Dashboard.
So the workflow is basically:
Create → assign devices → publish to Homey → use as an interactive 3D dashboard.
Spacey Plan has a similar general idea, but Mikonus takes a different approach because the complete 3D editor is already part of the app.
I’m currently in the final stages of the new iOS/iPadOS version with dashboard support and plan to submit it for review soon. At the same time, I’ll also aim to submit the Mikonus app for the Homey App Store.
I’ll upload a short demo of the current version as well.
GIF 1 → Exporting the scene from Mikonus to Homey
GIF 2 → The same scene running in Homey — and yes, you can actually see the blinds and vacuum moving.
You create and edit the floor plan in the Mikonus app, then publish it to Homey.
I keep the editor in Mikonus because it gives me much more freedom for the 3D editing experience. Homey is then mainly for displaying the scene and controlling your devices.
Sounds great..thx for your detailed feedback to my questions above, it’s all clear for me at the moment, the big benefit what i see is like you already have explained, the floor plan creator is already part of the app, this makes it at the end for the user more comfortable because you get a all in solution!
Well, i will test the iOS Software the next days also the LIDAR scan function how it works and give you a feedback! Thx also for the Demos…the vacuum is awesome
Great work and idea, if the useability is easily it could be a huge success!
