[APP][Pro] Tv Overlay - Send notifications to your AndroidTV

Elevate your Android TV experience with TVOverlay – the ultimate app that turns your TV into an information hub like never before. Whether you’re a casual viewer or a tech enthusiast, TVOverlay enhances your TV content by overlaying essential information and giving you complete control over its appearance.

TvOverlay App is build by Tab Developer. I have only build a Homey integration.

Hoi Stèphan,

Nice initiative! I paired the TV Overlay Remote phone app with the TV Overlay app on Android TV box, and they’re connected.
To my surprise, it can also use MQTT messages.

However, when I want to add the TV Overlay device on Homey, I get this error message:

If I can do anything to test, just let me know.

Thanks! Are you using a 2019 or 2023 model?

Sorry, model 2019, recent firmware v12.6.1

FYI about the connection: The Homey Android Tv app is connected to the Android Tv box, so I may presume connectivity shouldn’t be an issue?

No, Homey Pro 2019 has old NodeJS version. I have fixed this in the latest version 1.0.3 so you can try it again after you have updated the app.

Superb, the Android box was found automatically, sending notification works!

A thought:
The image cards have 2 non-optional icon fields, with, as I call them, H.A. icon types.
Is it possible to have those as optional fields?
Or have a pre-entered default icon?

Yes there is also an other card without color and icons

Hi @ObelixNL

is it possible to turn off the text above my notifications? It’s a fun app to play with.

No when I remove the parameter for appTitle then only RestAPI stays, I think Homey * RestAPI is nicer then only RestAPI. I will ask the developer of the app if it is possible.

Maybe this works, but you’ll have to purchase the phone app:

@ phone app: make a new layout, and uncheck “Source”

@ObelixNL or maybe you can omit “Source” if possible at all?

@Peter_Kawa @ObelixNL Thanks, that works. The text has indeed disappeared.

Nice app!

I have some questions:

  1. There are multiple Than cards with the same name, but with different parameters. Could these cards get distinctive names?
  2. Now it is possible to make the layer between the tv screen and the overlay more or less transparant. This remains after the overlay is gone. Would it be possible to setup the transparancy only for the overlay part when it is visible?
  3. Setting up the message box to minimalistic removes the header “Homey RestAPI”, but images are not possible in that case. Could minimalistic also be setup for image and video?
  4. The seconds part of the card shows as a helper text “In degree celcius”

That’s what I call a quick response!

  • Nice and working
  • Tv is not turning on after execution of “Turn screen on” message to my Google Chromecast gen. 2. What is the use case?
  • Nice and working

That is more for nvidia shield I think it sends turn on message. Working here with a shield.

Amazing app. I love it. A few points:

Can we optimize the Video URL (RTSP) part, it’s not working for most of the cases (local ip), seems timeout sensitive?
Can we create a setting that you can show 1,2 or 3 messages at once?

@SossieNL The Android app is closed source by the developer. So I can’t check the RTSP part!

There is a kind of queue in the notifications, later I will try to add this to the Homey app.

Good news! The Homey App is now Live in production!

I have a Philips TV that is connected to the homey pro and it works fine. When I try to add your app, I get this error.
