I’d been scrolling through the App Store recently and seen a number of Waste Bin collection apps but they were all for European countries which tapped in to a database of collection dates. It’s very efficient but I wanted a dashboard widget that I and anyone else could use based on a recurring date cycle, so I created an app. Please give it a try and let me know if it works for you? Go in to Configure to specify your next collection date for General Waste & Recycling, the frequency of collection and the colour for each bin which will be reflected in the widget. The app also features a small set of Flow cards which can be used for sending notifications. If you would like more cards or new features please let me know?
Please can I ask what your app does that this one doesn’t? (UK based, and although the dynamic scheduling doesn’t work, the crazy 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks for different wheelie bins is possible to setup custom schedules for)
I’m curious to know more about what your app does, but the description and screenshots are lacking on the apps store page and here unfortunately.
Hi Drako74,
Sorry I’m new to this so will look at how to get more screenshots on the app page.
Please see the screenshots where you can select the date of the next collection, and then select the schedule. The glass and garden waste can be added with a tick box. You can rename each of the entries to your liking and assign a colour which is then reflected on the widget. The date is displayed for the next collection, until the day before when it displays Tomorrow, and then Today on the day of collection.
Here is the description of the colouring when there are dual collections on the same day:
If both General Waste and Recycling fall on the same day, the code triggers the Dual Collection logic:
- Title & Subtitle:
Without glass: Displays [Recycling Name] & [General Waste Name] (e.g., Green Bin & Black Bin) with subtitle Dual Collection.
If glass is also due: Automatically appends it, displaying [Recycling Name] & [General Waste Name] & Glass Box with subtitle Dual Collection & Glass. - Widget Background Colour:
Takes the Recycling bin colour by default. If the recycling colour was set to transparent, it falls back to the General Waste colour. - Icon & Badge:
Displays the
icon with the dark badge active.
The date badge shows Today, Tomorrow, or the shared collection date as normal.
Hope this helps, please give me feedback as this is my first app attempt.
Updated to version 1.2.0 adding a -/+1 or 2 day variation to public and Christmas holidays.
Updated the App page with a detailed description and link back to this forum page, thanks to @Drako74
Added European collection options to make the app truly universal.
- Paper & Cardboard
- Organic / Food Waste
- Plastics & Packaging (PMD)
Please let me know if there are any other types of collections that are missing?
Every type now has a tickbox to select and maintains the selection date, frequency (1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks) option, and the bin colour.
Added Collected / Emptied button to the widget on collection day, press to reset. Choose in settings which terminology you would like for the button:
- Collected
- Emptied
Added 2 new widgets to display multiple upcoming Collections
