Test version: Philips Avent Baby Monitor | Homey
Hi everyone,
We have two Philips Avent baby monitors and I wanted to use them in my flows, but there was no Homey app for them. So I made one. It gives you the temperature, the motion and sound alarms, the night light and the lullabies in Homey, and you can watch the camera from the Homey app too.
Supported monitors
The connected monitors you set up with the Philips Avent Baby Monitor+ app:
- SCD923, SCD951, SCD953, SCD973
- The SenseIQ models, which also report whether the baby is in the crib, the breathing rate and crying
I’ve only been able to try it with our own two monitors, so if yours acts up or something’s missing, let me know!
What you get
On the device
- Nursery temperature
- Motion and sound alarms
- Night light on/off and brightness
- Lullaby: play/pause, next/previous, volume and which of the 15 sounds is selected
- Privacy mode (turns the camera off)
- Wi-Fi signal strength
- Live video in the camera view, with sound
- SenseIQ: baby in crib, breathing rate, crying
All flow cards are listed in the documentation.
Some ideas
- Sound alarm turns on in the evening → flash a light in the living room or announce it on a speaker
- Nursery above 22 °C → push notification, or turn on a fan
- Bedtime flow → night light at 20 %, play “Rain”, stop the lullaby after 30 minutes
- Monitor goes offline → notification, so you’re not relying on a monitor that isn’t there
Getting started
Add a device, pick Philips Avent Baby Monitor and sign in with your Baby Monitor+ account. The full walkthrough is in the documentation.
How it works
The monitors are Tuya cameras under the hood. The app talks to them the same way the Philips app does:
- Cloud for commands and regular state, plus Tuya’s push messages, so changes come in within seconds.
- Local on your home network (listen-only) for fast alarms and temperature. On the SCD973 and SCD923 the motion and sound alarms only arrive this way, so keep Homey and the monitor on the same network. You can turn the local connection off in the device settings if the monitor misbehaves.
- Video streams over WebRTC. The monitors send video with broken timestamps that make it stutter, so the app relays and fixes the stream by default. The Smooth video setting turns that off.
Good to know:
- Alarms switch off by themselves after 30 seconds. The monitor reports that something happened, not when it stopped.
- Listening in doesn’t interrupt a lullaby.
- Privacy mode blocks video too.
Disclaimer
This is an unofficial app, not made or supported by Philips. It uses the same cloud the Philips app uses, so if Philips or Tuya change something, the app can break until I catch up. Please keep using the Philips app (or the parent unit) as your primary monitor. This app is an extra, not a replacement.
