Works for me. I use an Alexa routine that I run through the app.

i should say when i mean several i mean at least 5+ echo devices at the same time. potentially more depending on what triggers it. i know when someone is at my front door, rings my doorbell or the garage opens potentially 10+ echo devices may go off. alexa homey app struggled to keep up where it would either be delayed on some devices or time out.

I did originally use alexa routines for announcements. i originally had a smartthings hub which was ok. had its limitations and got a bit messy using virtual switches to get the job done. that was my first dabble into smart devices outside of the usual smart bulbs and smart plugs.

I wanted something that had a lot more flexibility but wasnt so difficult if someone else wanted to add a few things for their room.

I had that issue with the Alexa app (and switched to VoiceMonkey to address it). I’ve been monitoring the Echo app for a few weeks, and no disconnects so far. But I can’t be sure, yet, that it doesn’t suffer the same issue.

i did check out voicemonkey previously while using the alexa homey app. also looked into it a bit more recently. dont want to overcomplicate my setup incase if a family member wants to add something themselves.

unless its a one time configuration within voicemonkey and the rest is done within Homey i dont want to invest my time configuring it if no one else can use it easily. if i can find a user guide/tutorial/video ill consider looking into it more but haven’t actually found one yet.

i primarily use the alexa homey app for announcements, some voice commands and maybe a couple of alexa routines. from what i can see the echo app looks quite similar as to what functionality im after.

i always wonder whether there is still a limitation sending announcements at all. not sure if this is still valid as the post is old within the alexa homey app forum page.

And there’s one more thing you should know. Regardless of what smart home device you use as a trigger event, Amazon limits the Notification API: Trigger events can only create notifications up to five times in a five minute period. After that, Amazon puts you in a bit of a time-out.

that was back in 2019. couldnt find anything recent when searching online.

just wasnt sure if im able to use it as i saw post about amazon country and language needing to be mapped on the app. the list didnt appear to have Australia (AU) so i wanted to ask whether it needed to be mapped for australia using english.

i will at one point ill just install the app to see if it just works. just havent had the time to continue configuring my flows and smart devices. i’ve got stuff in boxes collecting dust. haha.
