Thanks for your answer.
it would be great if there was enough interest in the bose devices and integration would work out.

There are details on how to get involved in the development of the app in the thread.
I understand that my reaction seems extreme, I have been supporting this (and other apps) for over 5 years and people may have noticed how iâve become more and more short/distant over the last 6 months. Lets just say it was âproverbial straw broke the camelâs backâ. Unfortunately, I donât seem to be the only developer who is a âbit over itâ.
Myself and other developers create these (community) apps for our personal use - and we chose to share some of them because I find them useful and think others might as well. But myself (and other developers) are not here to slave away adding devices or feature just because thats what you (random reviewers) want/demand.
I have very little spare time, I came online today to add support for the Alexa gen4 (I bought one during the prime sale), and instead got your negative review - After replying I got frustrated and ended up walking away, this is happening more and more often.
Totally understand. My biggest misconception was on how the ecosystem works: relying on willing developer (like you) who do a great job at making Homey apps, which is probably one of the biggest reason why Homey is successful in some ways.
I guess users (and I include myself in it) are too used of using iOS/Android apps ecosystem that are built by companies that maybe we tend to apply the same expectations elsewhere believing its built on the same standard & we have very little warnings when we see the app displayed in the Homey App Store (especially for new users like myself, hence the suggestion about page description). It looks like any app store with the same set of standards. However, here the model is very different.
Now that itâs a bit clearer for me, I can see other threads that I believe suffer from the same set of misconception and how frustrating it can be if taken directly for yourself.
Yeah its a fair assessment and I can understand why people might get confused, I think that some of the confusion is because its never really defined anywhere. The only place it is called out is in the menu - there are âoffical appsâ and âcommunity apps - which are available on the proâ.
But what does that mean, AND - more and more apps are just installed from the homey app with out going to the pages any more ⊠which I think only adds more confusion.
Perhaps the answer is a clearer definition as to what is community and what is offical (in the app) as well as what that means.
I agree, but the only thing developers get is a reward in the form of a animated homey logo, which pulses when someone downloads their created app and that is ONLY if there app is popular enough. For the general development community, they just have to pay for a Homey just like everyone else, there is no perks just more stress having to deal with issues.
True!!
Iâm confused, does it require Homey Pro (Device) or subscription?
Hey MagedEdward - In order to use this application you will require homey pro (which doesnt require any subscription).
And with different hardware setups now possible we need to buy stuff we might not need to support use casecpeople might use.
I am now in 3 homey and a network adapter, one i bought to free up my old one for dev testing, then the new pro was launched and with its optional utp adapter you get people with two wifi+utp, wifi only or utp only setups.
So yeah we are investing real money ourselves and lots of time to share with the community. Time not spend on family.
For context : I have 3x Homey Pros, 4x Homeys and 22x Alexa devices. (For a three bedroom home).
Dear Jamie,
I use several Amazon devices with Alexa including the Echo Show 5" (gen 1).
I also have a Ring video doorbell 2 that automatically sends the camera image to the Echo Show as soon as someone rings the doorbell; however, the two-way audio must be activated either with a touch or with a voice command: «Alexa, speak whit âvideo doorbell nameâ».
Since Iâm disabled and donât use my hands but I donât even have a âperfectâ voice, is it possible to create a Flow that automatically activates two-way audio when the Echo Show shows the video doorbell image?
I donât have many skills on how to use Homey Pro, I just got it and Iâm learningâŠ
I started downloading the Apps:
- Amazon Alexa (Your App)
- Ring (App by Danee de Kruyff)
I disturbed you because the image of the Ring video doorbell is already in the Echo Show and so I thought it was more a matter related to your App
Thanks in advance, a warm greeting!
Iâd say this is case in point for Amazon more than the Alexa app in homey. I am not saying it cant be done, in fact its maybe worth feeding this back to Amazon as well who clearly need to make the Alexa system more accessible and you have a strong user story for that. Doing it this app just masks the route issue.
Dear stuartp44,
what I can do now I owe to a Ring support engineer; the same will pass on my suggestions regarding the implementation of the Ring Skill and Alexa to Ring.
But I think these are things that take timeâŠ
Thatâs why I was looking for an immediate alternative through the âAmazon Alexaâ App.
Many thanks, see you soon!
There could be a âwork aroundâ though honestly I think its going to be pretty clunky.
You could create a new flow with
Trigger
There is an awesome Ring app by @DaneedeKruyff (Send Daneede a donation) - (that I use), which can create a flow for âwhen generic alarm turned onâ (ie. door bell pressed).
Action
Using my alexa app I would use the card "Have a device run the command ⊠", then specify exactly what you would say to alexa "speak whit âvideo doorbell name on [device name]â
This should automate that process for you at least, (in theory) if I get a chance ill try it out.
If you want to go a step further, and pay for the premium ring, you could have it run that command when it detects that a âhumanâ is approaching the door ⊠and your home. (Detecting people using @DaneedeKruyff app is super cool. ) (Send Daneede a donation)
Update -
Had more success with using the motion sensor then the bell press. But thatâs because my Alexa was using the default behaviour automatically show the door on press - might have to disable that behaviour to have the âtalk toâ command work
If that doesnât work for you I use my alexa devices to trigger flows in homey all the time - they can do some interesting things. Trigger a flow when it hears glass break, or the shower running, alexa thinks someone is in the room, or motion from my arlo cameras etc. etc.
ââ
If you want to make it a bit more useful and abstracted, I would use !triggers and #scenes for it (âąïž)

That way it knows where I am, and helps me answer it. It should be easy to expand out as well just set your priority if where you answer them:)
Hey Jamie, I forgot to reply to this. Thank you for replying also and you did understand me right, although I was also thinking of it like this (perhaps another way then if sending image is not possible:
You ask Alexa to do a custom command, there you ask her: Alexa, show me my album âxxxxâ.
She then says: Okay, hereâs your album âxxxxâ
Could it be possible to get rid of the confirmation where she says that âokay etcâ? I just think it can be really annoying and not fitting during a routine ![]()
after lasr homey update cannot login on eu server anymore. i receive the sms with auth code after sending the code i receive only error 404âŠ
i can connect with us serverâŠbut iâm in ItalyâŠ
Dear Jamie,
You were very clear!
To avoid making a mistake, Iâll show you the Flow I wrote:
For the Card of âWhenâŠâ I think I didnât make a mistake with:
- The generic alarm has been activated
Note: âIngresso principaleâ is the name of my video doorbell Ring.
For the Card of âThenâŠâ I hope I have chosen the right Card; however, I have a doubt about the presence of âAlexaâ in the sentence:
- «Alexa, speak with Ingresso principale»
Dear Jamie, can you just tell me:
- If the 2 Cards are right?
- Is there a Card that can only activate the audio? I ask you because on the image of the video intercom â on Echo Show â there is the writing âAudio deactivatedâ; I donât know if itâs enough to activate the audio to communicate bidirectionallyâŠ
(When Iâm not alone at home, Iâll do some testsâŠ)
Thank you very much for your help, see you soon
Your command two is missing the last part - you need to tell Alexa what echo device to play it on, I could be wrong - but I donât think it knows that inherently.
- «Alexa, speak with Ingresso principale on Sala Show»
As I said, there is a default behavior for on door press - which you may need to disable first. Otherwise it will try to SHOW and TALK at the same time.
@Jamie how can I help to add Echo Dot 5?
